I am a Filipina and I am holding a double entry tourist visa for Thailand. Is it possible for me to apply a Schengen visa while I am here in Bangkok instead of going back to my country and apply it from there? I was told I can do it here as my current visa for Thailand allows me to stay here for more than 3 months. But I want to make sure if that information is correct. Anyone knows anything about it? Thanks.

IF you have somone who invites you and send all the paperwork from his / her country and take care for all insurances , airticket etc, etc. you can apply for a shengen visa but it is very hard to get one............

I think what the OP was asking is whether or not the Schengen embassies would accept an application from a non-Thai national who is residing in Thailand temporarily, or whether they would insist she return to the Philippines and apply from there. I don't think there is a definitive yes or no answer: depends on which Schengen embassy you are going to apply at and how strictly they interpret the residence requirement. I can only suggest you contact the embassy in question and ask.

You will not be inside Thailand for more than 3 month! As you have to leave Thailand after 3 month!

You have to apply where you usually live, a 3 month or 2 Tourist Visa, do not make Thailand your usual residence in my opinion.

BUT -

if you choose to stay in the Schengen area mostly in a country, which has a Bangkok Consular section but no Consular section to apply for in the Philippines, than, you can apply also in Bangkok. Or at that Embassy - Consular section which represents that country in the Philippines.

So check that possibility out.

Show prove that you stay longest in the Schengen area in a small country with Embassy in Bangkok but not in Manila,

you can do that with Hotel reservations - important.

Where you arrive in the Schengen area is not from importance, important where you stay most days during your trip - or/and where you have the longest Hotel reservations from. wink.png

You cannot apply for a Schengen visa Per Se, you have to apply for a visa to one specific country within the Schengen agreement.

Then you might receive a visa for that country extended to a single or multi entry Schengen visa.

My girfriend has just received her multi entry Schengen visa from the Belgian Embassy in Bangkok and she will visit me for 90 days from the beginng of February.

I had to provide the following items for my girlfriend to present to the Belgian embassy for the interview:

1. Confirmation of sponsor

2. Confirmation of whom living at the sponsors address

3. Air ticket

4. Medical insurance

5. Invitation letter

6. Copy of sponsors payslips for the last 3 months

7. Copy of sponsors passport

The above list is applicable for Belgium and might vary slightly for different countries.

In addition she needed to provide a ban statement with at least THB 20,000 plus evidence that she has a good reason to return to Thailand.

I.e. housebook and familyrelations.

You should also note that first time applicants get refused very often - as it happened for my girfriend two years ago.

Now she is visiting me for the 4th time and this is the second time she got a Schengen multiple entry visa.

I hope this is of some assitance to you - and I wish you good luck!

Normally, schengen visa or most other visas has to applied in either your home country or if applying in a foreign country, you would need to have a residence visa/permit for that country.

Now, with the Asean, I dont know if a Philipino passport holder would qualify to apply in Thailand without a residence visa.

Normally, they wouldnt.

The OP wasn't asking about the process for applying for a Schengen Visa, and yes you do apply for a Schengen Visa, they were asking whether they can apply in Bangkok whilst here visiting.

The short answer is no, not normally, you have to be legally resident in Thailand, that could mean on a long term study or business visa or on an extension of stay based on retirement.

Some consulates are more strict on their interpretation on the agreement than others, likewise others may be more relaxed. Unfortunately you cannot cherry pick your preferred consulate, you must apply at the Consulate with responsibility for the main destination.

Bear in mind that sponsorship isn't a requirement, many visitors successfully apply for visas using their own funds to prove affordability.

It is at the discretion of the embassy.

Due to the Schengen rules the embassies are not forced to accept a visa application in the non home country/non residence country of the applicant but they can do it if they want.
