Visa Photo for US visa application?

Featured Replies

My wifes 10 year non-imm visa has expired so we want to apply for a new visa. Completing the application is easy enough but how do you attach the photo?

Probably the same as for passport renewal.

5. Provide One Passport Photo

To avoid processing delays, be sure your photo meets all the requirements and is properly submitted with your application.

When attaching your passport photo to Form DS-82, be sure you:

  • Staple the photo to the application. Use 4 staples vertically in the corners as close to the outer edges as possible.
  • Do not bend the photo.

Your passport photo must be:

  • In color
  • Printed on matte or glossy photo quality paper
  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size
  • Sized such that the head is between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (between 25 and 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. View the Photo Composition Template for more size requirement details.
  • Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance
  • Taken in front of a plain white or off-white background
  • Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera
  • Taken with a neutral facial expression (preferred) or a natural smile, and with both eyes open

I think you are asking about attaching it during the online application process. You do not attach one when you do it,

From the following webpage that lists what is to be taken with her when she goes for the appointment "One visa photo (2X2 inches with white background)" http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/niv_howtoapply.html

You do need to attach a photo during the online application process. You need to scan it, and then upload it. It is automatically added into the application form. In addition, you need to take one photo with you :

When applying for a nonimmigrant visa, you are required to upload a digital photograph taken within the last six months as part of completing and submitting the Form DS-160. You should also bring a copy of your photograph to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate on the day of your interview. You will also be fingerprinted when you arrive for your interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

This will help :

Pretty much what Tony M said, but I will add: If you don't have a current "Visa Photo", follow the "7 steps to successful photo" carefully, and take the pic yourself. I have done this 3 times with zero problems.

Thanks for all the replies. My question is once we take the pic how do I download it to my computer so I can attach it to the visa application? I don't have a scanner. Maybe the photo shop where we take the photo can scan it and send it to me via e-mail? Would I then be able to attach it to the application from the e-mail?

^^You will need a card reader or a USB cable that will come with most digital cameras. Or, find someone with one and email, save the photo and upload from there.

Or just have someone with a smart phone help. It would take about 10 seconds.
