Anti-semitic French comedian Dieudonné forced to leave Thailand

Not taking sides--I have no idea who this guy is, never heard of him. But I'm surprised that the Freedom of Speech brigade hasn't been more vocal. Well, a few have spoken up, but most here support the government censorship of this guy. From strictly a free speech perspective, if anyone had any issues with this guy, they certainly could have organized a boycott, or picket, or roundly criticize the guy. But getting the government involved....don't know if that's a good idea. I hope the government doesn't ban movies or shows or concerts in the future just because some Ambassador insists.

No need for long winded political lectures on the merits of zionism or politics as it has nothing to do with the man's motives.

It's so obvious, that this is a very angry man who blames jews for his career failure. Keep in mind that he started out with a jewish comedy partner. While together, he enjoyed success. After they broke up, Diedonne tried his hand as an actor. He failed. His stand up routines steadily went downhill. He became desperate for attention embracing any offensive routine if it could get him some attention. It's so obvious that this guy is blaming others for his failure. Does it make sense to anyone that he would have befriended Jean Marie Le Pen as his career spiraled downwards? He has some serious psychological issues going on in his head.

Israeli comedians have said far more incendiary things, as have American, and English comics. Remember Mel Brooks and his hit song Springtime for Hitler from the classic, The Producers? The difference is that all the biting wit was honest comedy and humour.

Ever watch Family Guy? Seth MacFarlane savages jews in most episodes. The difference between him and the French wacko is that Seth is poking fun of people without malice and hatred. Dieudonne's words and actions drip with hate and blood lust. It's all about his resentment and need to blame others for his failure. He's one seriously screwed up man who now advocates violent terrorism.

Another one who should have stayed away from the keyboard today ...

Between Elie and Dieudonne, it's very clear who enjoy more success as a comedian.

As a comedian, Elie is practically nothing without Dieudonne.

Even if you consider Dieudonne as "evil", you can't deny this fact. Elie is the less talented of the two.

So, please do you, and us, a favor, don't comment on topics you have no clue about.

JM Lepen is far from being my favorite political person, far far from it, but Dieudonne move was brilliant from a marketing perspective. He managed to get the media attention, no, he managed to control the media attention that he needed to continue to perform as an artist.

Geriatrickid, leave the discussion to people who knows what they are talking about.

It's not simply a free speech issue. The guy has a criminal record in both France & Belgium (according to the article). Thailand doesn't really have a reputation for welcoming foreign political activists, let alone terrorist sympathizers.

I just spent two hours viewing some of his sketches for a few minutes each and did not like any, unlike Fernand Raynaud or Raymond Devos pranks.

I then watched two TV interviews where he defended himself against attacks and one presentator was very confronting. I found he managed well, came across as rather intelligent.

It seems the media have been misquoting the man intentionally as they often do.

Anyway, his opinions are his and getting him banned from performing by excercing pression on governments is like killing free expression, where are Charly Hebdo's rights?

I'm surprised you just didn't toss in a "t'es con" while you were at it. I have seen some of the chap's routines. And surprise I do understand the French language. Bet you didn't know that, so don't offer a condescending comment that I don't know what I am talking about. I never claimed his partner was more talented. What I stated is that once the pair broke up, his career tanked. True or false, all of the movie roles your friend took, were panned. Those negative reviews came before he espoused some of his more hateful rhetoric. As he spat out more and more hateful statements and embraced violence, his career suffered such that the only people who support him now are those with a hatred of jews and the usual jihadist sympathizers.

The Iranians threw him a lifeline back in 2012 when they financed his kill the jews movie, "L’Antisémite". His promotional tour in Montreal, Canada was stopped when locals became aware of who and what he was. Dieudonne had climbed into bed with the people who violently beat the Montreal based journalist Zahra Kazemi to death in an Iranian prison, The woman had reported on Iranian protests. Dieudonne refused to condemn the woman's torture and murder. That's the kind of man he is.

You claim Dieudonne's embrace of LePen was a media stunt, and then you have the audacity to tell me that the discussion should be left to those who know what they are talking about? Well, it is obvious, you either do not have a full grasp of this depraved madman's position, or you are one of his supporters.

Dieudonne, just didn't cosy up to Le Pen, but embarked on a whirlwind tour of support, including a visit to Africa where he meddled in the domestic affairs of another country. It was such a media stunt, that M'bala M'bala still maintains a close association with Monsieur Le Pen. The man is such an embarrassment, that Marine Le Pen, who has distanced herself from the ignorant views of her papa, avoids M'bala M'bala like the plague.

There it is, the T-word, surprised it took so long for someone to throw it in the mix.

Seems in this politically correct world, only Jews get to make jokes about Jews, blacks about blacks and well of course the Irish are fair game. The comedy show does not seem like it would be a sell out crowd and nothing to be bothered seeing. That said its really f_~ked up that you expell someone from you country because another country does not like their humor. Political correctness is now the banner for the lefties to silence freedom of speech.

Hate speech isn't exercising freedom of speech, it is abusing it.

Points well-made, much better than just throwing out the t-word.

There was an earlier debate on this thread, to someone relying on other sources for info I have to say both sides make a good argument.

So is he a free-speech advocate and anti-Zionist (i.e. political comedian), or a hateful anti-semitic bigot?

OK then, if you say so smile.png

I'm against the demonisation of free speech, but maybe he is spreading hate speech which as you pointed out above is the abuse of free speech....

LMAO. Very astute: "Thailand" does indeed have a 'T' in it, doesn't it. Thanks for that valuable insight! Actually TWO 'T's in "state", as in French State of Emergency, something Thailand would probably like to avoid...

Prime Minister keeps controversial comedian off stage

PHUKET: -- The show of controversial comedian and hate-speech convict Dieudonn่ M'bala M'bala, scheduled to take place last month at Illuzion night club in Phuket, was cancelled after the venue pulled the plug less than 24 hours ahead of the Frenchman taking the stage. Since then, Mr M'bala M'bala has struggled to find his footing in Asia.

“One of the owners of Illuzion was contacted the evening before the show by the Phuket Governor, who asked to cancel the show due to the unknown content of Dieudonn่’s speech, which could have disappointed and hurt the Jewish community,” said Illuzion legal representative Panuwat Somrit, from Harwell Legal International Law office.

“Illuzion understood that the Israeli ambassador made a direct request to the Prime Minister for having the show cancelled and the Prime Minister had contacted the Phuket Governor.”

Israeli Ambassador Simon Roded confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that he had approached the appropriate Thai authorities to prevent the performance from taking place.

“Dieudonn่ was convicted several times in the past years by courts in France and Belgium for crimes of hate speech, Holocaust denial, anti-Semitism, racism and more. Many venues in Europe have forbidden his performances due to their offensive nature and his criminal records,” said Amb Roded.

The article written by mister Itamar Eichner in Chiangrai times ,you refer to, is a mixture of half truth and omissions . Dieudonné denounces the utilization of the shoa made by the state of Israel to justify its policy in Palestine and this, helped woldwide by a strong loby.

Reminder Israel is occupying for more than 50 years and stealing land from another country regularly and continuoiusly see this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_settlement .

It does not respect even basic international laws .This country is able to bomb civilians , schools , hospitals ,

it wants to completely annex palestine and does want peace at all, otherwise it would not continue to steel land to make new settlements (New ones have been signed last week)The result is the future looks like to be an apartheid system .

Its lobby is so powerful that they never get international sanctions and are not sue for crime against humanity. Its lobby is so powerful that they can even push a country to kick out an humorist who speaks out loud about a scandal which should have been stop for long time.

To concluse I recomend the site "Ynetnews" which help to undestand the subjectivity of the article written by Mister Itamar Eichner.

Dieudonné is against Israel state policy not against jewish people It is the same for many Rabbis in US and even inside Israel and he is one of the best french humorists.

He's just been convicted 6 times by French courts for racism and incitation to racial hate. smile.png

Petromatch: This so called comedian is simply a Jew hater. How else can one explain him using Nazi propaganda NOT, repeat NOT, against Israel, but against Jews, a crime for which he has been convicted a number of times by French courts. Under French Law, being anti Israeli is NOT a crime, incitement for racial hate is one!!

Allow me to state that I am strongly against the policies of the Israeli government and its attitude subjugating millions of Palestinians and against its cruel occupation policy. However, I am against racialism of any kind, be it directed at Jews, Muslims and others. Denying the Holocaust and adopting Nazi Propaganda is racialism at its worst!!

Congratulations to Thai Government!

Government always must have a responsibility to protect population from racism, unlawful actions and other hooliganism.

I applaud to Thai Government for taking this responsibility. Good exemple for others.

Get informed! Try to find out how this and former Thai governments treat their own ethnic minorities (races) before you clap your hands.

I don't think Irma was suggesting the government here has always been perfect in such matters. More like good job on THIS one. I agree.

While no one should applaud hate speech (and, like pornography, we know it when we see it). However, the effective means to combat it are not prosecution and censure but simply ignoring it. They'll get tired if no one pays attention.

All our little groups inhabit some burn ward in surreality. Grow a skin!

And use your good sense on something worthwhile.

The laws of France are up to the French. Given how France enthusiastically cooperated with the Nazis their laws make sense.

Dieudonné is an indicator of anti-Semitism progress in France. Its very average humor would not have enough to open the doors of success. For this reason it uses and abuses of provocations.

It essentially fills the theatres with commuter Arab Muslims (7 millions) For several years it is number 1 very far ahead of other comedians.

The meetings canceled in Hong Kong and Phuket enable him to denounce "conspiracy zionist international" in his words.

And more its shows are prohibited, more rating ascended to his audience a little particular.

Good decision ; but, I think there is all the right to expect similar standards for also, for example, anti-gay and anti-black hate speech.

Posted

Seems to me that it was wrong for the Israeli Ambassador to get involved and the consequences of all this are only to give the guy more notoriety and exposure. Had he just done his show and moved on I would have never heard of the guy. If indeed this guy makes comedy out of hate speech so be it. Don't listen to it if you are offended. Christ, is some ways we all hear hate speech of one kind or another everyday. As unfortunate as intolerance and hate might be they exist and having others determine what is hate speech and what is not wins nothing and only inflames attitudes.

Posted

I've never heard of this Dieudonne guy before but I've heard of the 'streisand effect'.

Well you and I both have now a million dollars worth of free publicity. It does not get any better than that.

The last thing zionists want is for the truth and all of their lies to be exposed. Always playing the victim but responsible for most of the hate and murder that's gone on in the world for the last 150 years. Who controls the world banking system, mass media, US foreign policy and who were the bolsheviks that were responsible for the genocide of countless millions of Russian and Ukranian christians? Wake up and stop listening to their drivel and please no accusations or lectures about me being an anti semite. Plenty of jews are anti zionist.

Don't believe me? Click on the video link for a good short film.

^^ these type of jewis are against zionism and the state of israel because of radical religious reasons, ie. god did not choose the state of israel, people did. therefor according to them zionism and the state of israel are evil.

this been said: imo denying the holocaust should be allowed, same as insulting jesus or mohammed. sure, it's stupid and provocative to deny the holocaust but if that is the guy's opinion. opinions don't kill people......

Opinions certainly do kill people. Hitler's opinions caused the death of 6 million Jews, 2 million gypsies and million upon millions of young men around the World. The opinion of a few Muslims caused the death of Charlie Hebdo.

watso33: For you to say that you are not an anti Semite is a (bitter) joke. You blame the "zionists" but simply mean the Jews. It is not the Zionists who, ACCORDING TO YOU, control the world banking, US policy etc. You mean the JEWS. You are an ignorant racialist.

Of course, there are Jews who are not Zionists. Quite a few of them, and with most of them it has nothing to do with God. They simply like to be French, British, Americans, Thais etc and feel no connection to Israel, although they are practicing, or non practicing, Jews. Some (including myself) srtictrly and strongly oppose the Israeli aggressive policies, although agree that Israel should be allowed to thrive in peaceful and secure borders, either next to an independent Palestinian state or in a bi national state with the Palestinians as absolutely equal citizens.
