PATTAYA:-- Police in Pattaya have declared an emergency situation following the discovery of a suspicious package in the Bali Hai area of the city.

The package was discovered just after lunch time on Tuesday and resulted officers closing roads and setting up roadblocks throughout Bali Hai.

Stay away from this area !

I predict it's a false alarm. Hope so, anyway. Or it could be a clock.

On the other hand, for real terrorists, placing some false alarms could be used as a tactic so that people stop paying attention to such things.

Reading the headline, I thought it would be about a ladyboy

at least an hour ago we heard what sounded like a explosion, dont know if its related, anyone in the district hear anything what might seem like explosion

Stay away from this area !

Bali Hai may call you any night any day............

What makes a "package" suspicious ? Is it the old fashioned alarm clock with sticks of dynamite and bell wire that confuses people, or the fact it might be a totally sealed box and you can't get into it....so not being able to fathom the contents makes you call the army....?

Could be serious as there are no motorbike taxi drivers standing and looking as is the norm at any other incident.

It's the guy pointing, must be suspicious

a suspicious package in pattaya......have they looked at 6/1?......many a suspicious package to be found in 6/1.

Some ones packed lunch will soon be toast...gigglem.gif

Interesting development. The day of the week aside, it is either a large orange box or a little black box on top of an orange something!

It was just a training exercise.

Bomb Alert Simulation Exercise at Pattaya Port

port-1.jpg?fit=610%2C393

PATTAYA:-- On Tuesday afternoon at the Bali Hai Port in South Pattaya a Bomb Alert Simulation Exercise took place, despite fears on social media that the situation was real.

The Army, Pattaya Police, The Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Unit, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department at Pattaya City Hall, Rescue Services and local Hospitals, took part in the exercise.

The simulation began with a report made of a bomb which had exploded at the Bali Hai Port and there were many injuries, however one unexploded bomb was still at the location.

The emergency services rushed to the location and the area was sealed off and road blocks were put into place. The “injured” were taken to Hospital and Bomb Disposal Officers conducted a controlled explosion on the unexploded “bomb”.

OMG. Craziness. Why didn't they say so?

Too make it as real as possible so people like you and me would cancel all our plans for the day.

I thought that the BiB were meant to clear the backlog of criminal cases, but instead they congregate for a group photo at Bali Hai. Or maybe they cleared all 600 cases in 2 days?

If it's real, they would bring a car tire.

Bali Hai is too crowded so they took care.

My first question on seeing the photo was:

If the object was a potentially armed explosive of that size, why are there police (one with an EOD vest) all casually standing around it?

And now that we know this was a bomb simulation alert: FAIL

Stay away from this area !

Don't want to see QUALITY TOURISTS...

Maybe it's a nuke that wipes out the whole $#!T F***n' town

I drove down walking street and the Bali Hai pier at about 3pm. Never noticed a thing. blink.png

be nice if someone would plant a real bomb on that spot and blow up that ugly unused car park that was built on a popular public park with out any public consultation

Good to have a practice; however, did the experts think of checking the security cameras to see if they work. (probably not)

I find 'suspicious' packages around the house all the time. 'Where'd this come from? I wonder what's in it. Should I open it? Maybe I should call the 'authorities? Good idea!'

"Hey Sweetie, what's in this box?"

Wife in other room: "It plaraa my cousin give me. Don't open it. It meant maak maak!!!"

"I knew I should ask the authorities first thank God. A disaster diverted!!! Whew!!!"

I came into contact with a suspicious package myself today....the wife arrived home with outstretched hand and uttering the words...."Here, I bought you a present".

the cops are standing right next to it and have no protective gear and they are pointing... hahahahhahaha

"The authorities decided not to inform the public of the exercise so it would appear as real as possible. The exercise was declared a success by organizers."

in other news, terrified tourists cancelled the remainder of their stay in Pattaya upon hearing of the terror threat.

Ho Lee Fuk, a Chinese tourist voiced his frustrations on Facebook. "We leave fast, go to airport in Bangkok, then hear not real. Very mad. Never come back."

A new twist on the concept of Security THEATER. rolleyes.gif

I feel safer now? Don't you?
