Samui Merchants Give Up on Govt, Repair Own Road

Featured Replies

'Tired of waiting for the authorities to repair a small chasm in their road, a group of merchants on Koh Samui on Monday took matters into their own hands.

Located at a three-way junction near Chaweng beach, the 50-centimeter by 1-meter hole has caused many road accidents for local residents and tourists, which spurred local merchants to finally do it themselves.

“Many accidents happened here. I’ve seen many tourists injured from this, and I felt bad for them,” said Samran Lungkum, a 52-year-old souvenir merchant. “So I and other merchants living nearby spent 400 baht on asphalt.”

Next will be Maenam traffic lights (14 years showing green in all 4 directions at once!)

Don't think there has been a traffic light in Maenam since 2002 – and you may rather think about the green turn-arrows, when green for traffic on the Ring Road, and red for soi 4. By the way, it was out of order a couple of years or more – no green or any other color light in any direction – and only got repaired about two years ago.

But you are right, the green arrows should never have been there... thumbsup.gif

I'm pretty sure there is a set of traffic lights in Maenam, well put it this way I stopped at a set going to Nathon last week blink.png

–but not since 2002, they came up later; if you please read the whole post before you quote part of it... wink.png

If that small fix prevents just one accident, then it's 400 baht well spent imo.
