Thanks to 7by7 I have received some clear answers to some of the questions I was struggling to find answers too.

I have just started to plan/look into what is required by the UK government for my family to return to the UK with me at the end of the year.

Q. I just read that it takes from 12 to 24 weeks for a UK settlement visa to be approved/rejected. Has anyone had good/bad any experiences with this?

Q. For my wife and her daughter to join me in the UK I need to provide evidence of a minimum 72,000gbp in my account in the UK. Does this need to be in my account when I apply for the settlement visa before it can be approved?

Thanks for any advice.

1) Processing times vary according to demand.

As you all live in Qatar, I assume they will be applying there.

The figures for decisions made in January show that 40% of settlement applications made in Doha were processed within 15 working days, 60% within 30 and 100% within 60.

This, of course, is no guarantee of future performance.

2) The money does not need to be in a UK account, but it must be in an account in your name, your wife's name or you both jointly and been there and in your control for at least 6 months prior to the application.

Although if it has been obtained by liquidating an asset, such as property or shares, then as long as you owned that asset at least 6 months prior to the application and have sold it and placed the money into an account before the application then this is fine.

Thanks 7by7

Sorry I have another question that I can't find the answer too

What is the maximum period (visa validity) of time allowed before entering the UK once settlement visa is granted. If my contact was extended for another couple of months would this be okay?

Once the visa has been granted the applicant has to enter the UK within 30 days, and collect their BRP from a nominated Post Office.

If you need to delay entry into the UK you need to apply for a new visa vignette, it costs in the region of £100.

I think it rises to 189 GBP in the next round of visa fee hikes ( from 6th April). Currently 122 GBP
