Migrate from iPhone to Android phone - software experience

Featured Replies

Anyone can tell me his experience to move from Apple iOS to Android.

I considering to buy me the new Huawei Mate 8 phone. The hardware is better and 1/3 cheaper than iPhone 6s.

Thanks

I was a diehard hater of Android 2-3 years ago mainly because the ecosystem of Android software is more chaotic - no strict guidelines for the GUI, apps are crippled with adware and in general look more "amateurish". IOS is more balanced.

And was reinforced in my opinion by finally buying Note 4 with its horrible TouchWiz.

But to my surprise, switching the firmware to MIUI brought up a whole new experience.

More options, less bloatware.

As you probably know already, there is fewer restrictions (almost nill) on Android.

I think you would embrace more powerful hardware on Android phones and better photo/video on top-end models.

Though I still own a Mac and jailbroken IPad and hope that Iphone 7 will narrow the technological gap.

Ask me anything!

The reviews say that the Mate 8 is great! The only drawback is the phone's software but the owner just loves the physical phone. Google for the review. Personally, I find the Android phones more intuitive than my iphone 6. I have to puzzle over how to do things on the iphone that I can do quite easily on my Sony Experia.

I checked many reviews comparing both software (and hardware).

Maybe the latest Android software 'Marshmallow' is as good as iOS. Some people like special features, others hate it. I think it is personal opinion, hate or like.

Thanks for your opinion

I looked that phone up. Wow, 20000 baht at Lazada.

I just bought an Asus Zenphone 2 ZE550ML for 7990 baht. Intel quad core 2.33GHz, 4GB ram, 64GB storage (internal SD), 5.5 inch Full HD display, gorilla glass 3, microSDHC to at least 128GB (that's what I have in there), android 5 and easily rootable. 13MP and 5MP cameras.

The unit I bought was refurbished, but looks like new. The only negaitve is that Asus has a lot of their own apps installed. Easy to remove the bloatware once you root the device.

Personally I will not spend 20000 baht (or more) on a smartphone. Waste of money as they are too easily damaged, and they become obsolete too quickly.

I also endorse the zenfone 2. Excellent choice, great camera and costs a fraction of the big brands

Stick with the new Android for 72hrs and all will be OK...

That was my learning curve at least...

Google, the Android parent just announced this week that they are tightening up developer rules for Play Store apps, especially in areas where apps try to override system protections. Oddly enough, it is also looking like the next version of Android (N) may look even more like IOS. Android is reportedly considering eliminating the app drawer, which several major OEM's skins have already done: Xiaomi's MIUI for instance.

I've used MIUI for the last month (Xiaomi Redmi Note-2) I don't miss the app drawer at all and it functions very smoothly but there are some other real annoyances. It is very difficult if not impossible to remove or replace some default apps like the music player.

I agree that the Asus Zenphone-2 phones are a great value, just be very careful you know which one you are buying. Asus has released a plethora of variations on the Z-2 and model to model, there can be significant differences in specs and components, even processors. The prices also vary widely, from B5000 up to past 3 times that.

the phones software is 'Marshmallow'. According to some reviews it is a copy of iOS.

So, the change should be easy
