TIBET: Goooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing to discuss. Tibet is apart of China and will remain a part of China. Even the Dali Lama knows this. Tibeteans are allowed to be Tibeteans and Buddhism is doing just fine in the region as well.

And just a few weeks ago, Chinese soldiers shot dead several Tibetans as they trekked to India on a visit to Dalai Lama - see video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssCVRhOfjtA

There have been such cases all over China, that is not a Tibet issue. Most of these cases have happened in the past as well. The government is thinking about giving up the one child policy as they are worried they will have too big a gap between the elderly and working age groups in the future.

They weren't leaving they were coming in. The incident that occured while sad does not prove that the Chinese are out to "get" Tibeteans. It was one guy being cruel not China. Neither of these examples prove that Tibetean people are not allowed to enjoy their culture. As a matter of fact the reigion is an autonomous reigion and they are trying to get tourism up by promoting Tibet's Buddhist cultural. The is more to China-Tibet relations then suffering. Free Tibet, yeah, okay let's free Hawaii while we are at it.

and Buddhism is doing just fine in the region as well.

Only after years of Chinese attempts to destroy the culture and religion of the Tibetan buddhists, duly failed and so decided to reverse tack and promote something they couldn't destroy.

That's one way to look at it I suppose. Although destruction wasn't the goal, more like subduing. Religions with leaders have always been a threat to China's governments. So, making sure that the the Tibeteans wouldn't organize aginst their rule they held them down. There was never any hate for Tibeteans or Buddhism. It's the same with the FaLung Gong at the moment. China's rulers have always feared religious movements until they feel they have proved their power over that group. They promote now for the Tibeteans are not a threat.

On reflection, I would probably agree with your statement.

Having something you do not understand or the ability to bring thru dialogue to your way of thinking, doctrine or tenets of non-faith will always manifest itself into violence from a supposedly stronger force, and for stronger force read greater might in arms not power of being in the right.

As you say they have a fear of the Falung Gong but this movement has such dynamic force of will, it can only lead to further demonstations of power over a group not willing to capitulate but with an ever increasing groung swell.

That's all well and good but, capitulation usually leads to long term resentment.

(and this is Bedlam, 50 pages of hot bums, not one single Tibetan.... not even a recently thawed out one :o )

I agree with you. I do not agree with how the PRC has handled many social issues and until they no longer feel threatened there will be more violence. This is where China needs to shed some of the middle ages thinking they still have and catch up with the west. My biggest point though is that China is not the evil empire some people in the west like to make it out to be. They have issues, yes, big ones even, but there are solutions, solutions I think rest in the hands one the young ones of China.

How about freedom for Tibet?

That includes getting rid of Dalai Lama as soon as China back out.
