Just wave your wad around. There'll be no shortage of wannabe teachers.

Hi Shaun,

Actually I live also in Kanchanaburi and I am looking for a good Thai teacher.

I have some experience with Thai teachers. My first (and best) Thai teacher I had in Belgium. I am Dutch but my place where I used to live before is not too far from Antwerp Belgium, where they teach Thai at the ThaiBel club. This Thai lady who teaches there to Belgian and some Dutch people understands how to make you comprehend the Thai language, because she is familiar with Western languages, like Dutch and English.

Here in Kanchanaburi I had two Thai teachers. The first one is a PHD in English, had his education in the USA. He took a very long and difficult route. Besides he was rather expensive so me and my friend got the impression that he saw us Farangs more as superb extra income milkcows. It was by far not the quick and comprehensive way of teaching I had before in Belgium.

Then I met a Thai restaurant owner who taught English to the staff of the ''Amphur" of Kanchanaburi. A very nice man, actually he is still my friend. This man did his very best, but he din't have some kind of didactic program. He taught me the every day used Thai words and sentences. He is a very nice and kind man and after some time I realized that I only had to remember all the different sentences, but that I coudn't create my own sentences because I was not taught the basics of Thai, so that you can construct your own talking. And it was too much to remember. My brain memory was almost completely used, like on the computer the message comes "Out of memory".

So after all I must say that the Thai lady in Belgium was a very good teacher. She and her husband made a book for speaking and a book for learning the Thai script. A superb job! Actually she and her husband will come to Thailand for a 6 weeks holiday in a few weeks. I hope they will come to stay with me and my wife again, like last year.

If you found already a good teacher here in Kanchanaburi I would like to know. I want to restart studying Thai, but I want to know the curriculum and the didactic program before.

I would like to hear from your exploration.

Regards,

Theo
