Toyota remote unlock problem.

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what this small dish is or what it does. Last night the guy living next door attached it to his house and this morning 4 toyota owners were unable to unlock their vehicles using the remote key fob. I drove about 200 metre up the road and mine worked fine but parked up outside the house it wouldn't work.

Where can you buy one ...I'm surrounded by them ....

A guess:

Parabolic antenna pointing nearly horizontal?

Looks much a long distant connection to some public WiFi (internet).

It's sometimes done in areas which are far from cable connections.

Could only be verified if I knew which frequency they use and whether it's the same as the remote keys.

Likely.

Quite sure it is a WiFi ("airMax") antenna.

UBIQUITI is a specialised Italian manufacturer of such equipment.

I could bet I have read the name before in a similar context...

These antennas are assembled by the ISP usually.

Nothing for the DIY type.

So I am afraid you will have a hard time to do anything against the annoyance.

I don't think the antenna and the remote are on the same frequency band but seem still strong enough interference.

Thanks for the reply. I'm certain it has something to do with the problem. Too much of a coincidence for it not to be the cause. My sister in law has lived here for 2 years without any problems. I am just visiting but 4 people unable to unlock their cars this morning after it being installed yesterday made me suspicious immediately.

Has the neighboring installation (in the distance) has been there before or both installed same day?

Hopefully it will not unlock by accident? Much worse.

Not sure about that one. Maybe its a combination of the two.
