BANGKOK:-- Police investigating the mystery of the body in the bag say they are following up eight people who look like the victim seen arriving late last week at Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports.

Officers also said they have identified three suspects, although provided no further information.

Authorities have said the man discovered in a "Bodium" brand bag is a central Asian. Television news referred to him as 'south' Asian.

The man was found dead with amphetamines in condoms in his stomach. He is thought to have died when one burst and was then put in the Ong Ang canal in Phra Nakorn district by persons unknown.

A check on guest houses in the area has turned up nothing and police are now concentrating on the Burapha and Miramar hotels. The bag is thought to have been bought from a bag shop in the area called Bangkok Fashion. Staff there said a 170cm tall man aged about 40 bought two Bodium bags for 350 baht each. He is thought to have spoken Punjabi. Sketches are being made.

Police are concentrating on an area between the shop, a bridge and where the body was found. A part of the area has been dredged without finding further clues. An appeal has been made to taxi and tuk-tuk drivers for information about suspicious behaviour in the area.

Seven people entering Suvarnabhumi and one at Don Muang in the March 30 to April 1 period resemble the victim. Efforts are being made to trace all those people.

Edit: The police are due to hold a press conference at 10am this morning to provide an update on the case. Thaivisa News will provide update thereafter.

I wonder how they knew if was Punjabi? Maybe the man was wearing a turban perhaps? That would be a good lead. Ah now we're cooking with gas. So what what colour was the turban? I wonder the other bag was for? Maybe his friend!

I think the plod are really onto something here!

.....one would think that this all would have been better planned.....

...and nobody knows anything....except all involved are NOT Thai.....

...what is wrong with this picture.....

...brings up the question of whether this was not the act of some 'local competition'.....

If you read the OP you will see the staff thought he was speaking Punjabi.

In attempting to pour scorn on tbe BiB, you make yourself look a fool.

.......following up eight people who look like the victim.........

Why? One was not enough?

Extraordinary Dr watson, maybe they might find a cousin or brother to help identify him, but then they know who he is and don't want to strain relationships with country of origin.

Then again he was not murdered????!!! so the people they are following up on " look alikes" is a very interesting exercise in police undercover work.

The people that dumped him in the klong of not much interest, as are the wounds inflicted by hungry soi dogs and klong fish.

The body bag dumpers so spooked they did not bother to recover the booty,or leave this one as a decoy. coffee1.gifbiggrin.png

Unless you are from South Asia I defy you to tell the difference between Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu or any of the other 128 languages spoken on the Indian Subcontinent. So I agree unless the shop assistant happened to be from that area I also wonder how they knew he was Punjabi unless he was wearing a turban.

From the Nation

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Dead-Bhutanese-believed-to-have-been-part-of-a-gan-30283530.html

46-year-old, identified as Ugyen Tshering, could have been a member of a drug-trafficking gang, acting Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn said.

He travelled with six other alleged members of the gang on March 28 and they checked into a hotel on Mahachai Road in Bangkok's Phra Nakhon district. His fellow travellers have been identified as Tandin Wangchuk, 35; Sonam Zam, 22; Dechen Dema, 30; Pema Khudu, 51; Kinzang, 32; and Manoj Kumar Daga, 37. Five of them are Bhutanese citizens, including two women, while the head of the gang is believed to be Daga, an Indian national, Sanit said. Police have already sought arrest warrants for Tandin and Manoj.

A video clip from CCTV at their hotel showed two Bhutanese men carrying one big and two small bags out of the building at 1am on April 1. Another outside camera showed them dumping the big bag into the canal before getting into a cab.

Police said the gang may not have had the skills to take the drugs out of the dead body, so decided to dump it in the canal. Sanit added that there might be several other people involved in the case.

A police source said all six suspects had already left Thailand. Earlier Sanit said authorities were preparing to have the suspects extradited back to Thailand if they had returned to their countries of origin or were hiding in Central Asia, he said.
