CHIANG MAI: --Local administration officials of Tambon Pong Yang in Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai has ordered Pong Yang Zipline & Jungle Coaster to halt its jungle coaster service temporarily for check after an incident which two tourists were injured.

Mr Wan Muangma, chief of Pong Yang Tambon Administrative Office, said he ordered operator of the jungle coaster to stop service temporarily for check and to come out with preventive measures before resuming service.

The operation permit was also under examination which was expected to be ready by April17, he said.

He said initial inspection of the jungle coaster by engineers of Chiang Mai’s Civic Work and Town Planning engineers showed the jungle coaster is safe.

Meanwhile Pong Yang jungle coaster operator said the incident happened because the riders stopped the car instantly to take photographs, forcing other car following in behind unable to put on the brake in time.

Two persons were injured, he said.

He assured that there was no damage to the structure of the railing and the coaster itself.

However he said the service was halted one day for maintenance and recheck for safety reasons.

The jungle coaster service was put into service for the first time in Thailand at Pong Yang Zip-line and Jungle Coaster in Mae Rim district just nine days ago.

The adventure car carries two persons of approximately 160 kilogrammes and runs on a 880-metre elevated rail line.

BS. We were on it over 2 weeks ago. Where you getting 9 days from, do your research.

Also its rider error, there are signs everywhere what not to do. Imbeciles stopping for selfies , deserve litigation as far as I'm concerned.

Only in Thailand would they build what is effectively a roller coaster where the rider is able to stop his own car to take a selfie allowing the car behind to crash into him.

Utter morons and not a clue about safety.

If its got mechanical moving parts and its operating in Thailand, the chances are very high that someone

has been injured or killed on it at some time in its use. If its purpose is to make money off of tourists, I think

the very high description should be revised (very very high) to past injury or death of those foolish enough

to spend their holiday funds on something built, inspected, safety checked, operated by locals.

Uou'd think, but actually these kinds of rides operate everywhere. The diffetence is probably in how they are run, and how people are briefed before letting them loose.

I have never in my life heard of a roller coaster where individual riders can stop their car to take selfies.

Have you?

Most ski resorts in New England today have these same single and double-seat coaster rides set up for Spring, Summer. and Fall tourist use of the mountains. Most run through the forested areas between ski runs, crossing the runs as they weave back and forth down the mountain. Virtually ALL of them have breaking systems so that you can go as fast or as slow as you wish. BUT... all of them have large "NO STOPPING" signs at the top, and the staff remind every rider that stopping is prohibited. Generally, people will buy 'multi-ride' tickets that include the ride up the chair-lift and the ride down the coaster. If someone stops, an attendant (there are several along the course) will radio in the cart number, and that person's ticket will be voided for future rides. The attendant will also radio the starter at the top to delay the next rider. But even so... accidents do happen. Even in *gasp* America!

But in fairness they're generally going at a sedate pace compared to a coaster, no?
