TB tests and treatment.

Featured Replies

What's the procedure for a tuberculosis test? This is the test for actual possible infection and not about getting a TB free certificate for any immigration purposes. If possible, what are the recommended hospitals and/or doctors in Udon Thani city.

Many thanks!

NL

Assuming you mean pulmonary TB, tests would include a Chest Xray and an examination of the sputum, the latter being definitive.

Udon Thani Hospital (government) is a regional level facility and would be the best place as it would have by far the most experience. If the long waits etc are a concern, ask if they have an after hours clinic. It is also possible that one of the infectious disease specialists there has hours at one of the private hospitals...best way to find out would be to ask the nurses in the ID clinic.

Thanks Sheryl. Mrs NL attended a week long family funeral and was up all hours of day and night leading the 24-hour cooking and all the other stuff. She developed a cough that wasn't responding to the regular meds and she also had a few of the other symptoms like loss of appetite and weight, fevers and spells of dizziness. The doctor she had seen twice loaded her up with pills but suggested she get tested for TB so just needed some guidance on my side. She's been flat-out busy with long hours at her restaurant outside Pattaya and flying visits to the ailing parent well before the final traipse up country for the funeral so I think she's just plumb worn out and needs a good rest. There was always the chance that with all those people attending the event over the 6 days, she could easily have caught TB from an infected person, especially up in Isaan.

She went to see a proper doctor early today, test and x-ray, etc. and she's just messaged me with "everything is ok now" so assume that she has been given an all clear with regard to TB and may just have a persistent chest infection. That does seem to be quite common at the moment. I will post any details later.
