webfact Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 CDC concerned over people’s lack of understanding about educationBANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Commission is concerned over the public’s lack of understanding about the education system in the country.Spokesman of the CDC Chatchai Na Chiang Mai, said today that the charter drafters plan to visit people around the country to explain the key points of the draft Constitution which is still being finalized as many documents are still being reviewed and summarized.Mr. Chatchai said that, once the essential documents are ready, they will submitted to the Election Commission. He added that the CDC is also to invite representatives of the National Legislative Assembly to help explain the referendum question to the volunteers, who will later help with the explanation process, during a training session scheduled for May 18 and 19.Mr. Chatchai went on to say that the CDC has been worried that the people may still lack sufficient knowledge about public health and education because distorted information is still circulating in the country. -- NNT 2016-05-02
thesetat2013 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 The problem with them educating the Thais about their new constitution are many... For one, they will most assuredly be teaching them about how good it is instead of weighing the pros and cons and letting people make a real educated decision. Secondly, everyone knows this constitution is only as good as the current admin which, they are hoping will be gone soon with real elections. Thirdly, everyone knows that nothing will change whether this constitution gets passed or not except perhaps a power shift with P in the background controlling things. This constitution will get passed if anything just to assure that elections will take place since so far, every year they seem t o make excuses for delaying that again and again.
madmitch Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 So the pro-constitution campaigners are allowed to "educate" the masses. Will the anti-brigade have the same rights? Rhetorical question.
Your Thainess Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 This whole charade is so undignified. Everyone involved, your average Thai citizen included, comes out looking like an imbecile. <deleted> happened to this country?
doremifasol Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Ah Ah.......Now they realized that the people they so carefully kept ignorant over the years are not going to understand about the education system in the Country. Som nam na
ChrisY1 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 It's really not just about the publics understanding about the Thai education system....IMO, the educators know little of the system, otherwise comments such as this would be not be needed. Reading between the lines... the authorities are saying the system is tanked and the people don't learn! But as has been stated, the whole movement to get the people to gain some understanding of the new constitution, will be about convincing them to vote yes!
laolover88 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 My children understand the Thai "Education" System perfectly. When asked to describe it they say" "Stand Up, Sit Down, Sing Songs, Copy from The Blackboard, Salute"
maewang99 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) the words education, teacher and student are so different from what they mean in the West we should invent new ones. yeah... we too have indoctrination and propaganda in our mass media and concentrated elites... but these words, these important words, more than any others we have the DNA inherited ability to name and categorize, are so twisted they are almost pornographic. mtls2005 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I think, but am not certain, that Chatchai Na Chiang Mai is referring to the changes for Education (shifting M4-6 to pre-K 1-3) and Health Care (less, higher co-pays) contained in the draft Charter. Obviously these might be viewed as negatives, and as such easily mis-understood by the un-educated masses. So there will be a need for "educational materials" (info-graphics, comic books) to edumacate the masses on the Charter goodness.

torpedo1970 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 "CDC has been worried that the people may still lack sufficient knowledge about public health and education " Hmmm, speaking in the Thai way (around the subject) are they not really saying one thing here..... That the Thai public is too stupid to understand the new draft constitution? And that it would be better to just pass it without having a referendum?
jaaaason Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Those that count the votes usually win in this type of situation...

Does this mean that by law, the parents will be forced to send their little 3 year old child to a room filled with 50 crying kids, all trying to get the attention of the 3 caregivers? ?? Rather than send them to a home learning center with 5 or 6 kids and friends or relatives to care for them. My son started school at 6 years old. I was able to teach him reading writing and basic math before he entered the rat race. I would rather go to prison, than put my child in a 3Rd floor room with 40 more babies.
Thaddeus Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Just enough instruction on how to put an X in the right box is all that is required. Don't ever expect to understand or question.

When asked to describe it they say" "Stand Up, Sit Down, Sing Songs, Copy from The Blackboard, Salute" Damn sir, your children have picked it in one! What a system, destroy the education system and then complain that the people are uneducated!!

While I'll admit that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I think you should read the article again?? The previous Op was was spot on when he suggested putting M4-6 back into pre K 1 - 3, maybe they'll learn something if they have to go around again??
poohy Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 What is there to understand about Thai education other than it does not work But that in itself is working because its designed not to educate, indoctrinate yes but that's very different.........
Lupatria Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Is that why they ask the "Pyramid Scientist" to write the curriculum for the schools?
klauskunkel Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) CDC concerned over people’s lack of understanding about education I am concerned that the "Constitution Drafting Commission" brazenly usurped the acronym used to denote the "Center for Disease Control" and thereby deliberately causing division and misunderstandings in Thailand. I think it shows a certain lack in education. Edited May 2, 2016 by klauskunkel
Srikcir Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 people may still lack sufficient knowledge about ... education because distorted information There's no misunderstanding about three years of government-supported education being removed from the draft. Twelve years of government-supported education has been an explicit constitutional guarantee since 1997. Both Democrats and PTP have objected to the loss of the three .
