buying 30 day pass for skytrain

Featured Replies

I will be in Bangkok in June and would like to buy the 30 day pass for the skytrain. Can this be purchased using one of the

vending machines at the station? If not, where would I buy it? Is this pass good for both the SILOM LINE and the SUKHUMVIT LINE?

They can be purchased at any station with a ticket office.

It's all the same company so I would imagine you can use them on both lines, although I can not confirm that.

Yes, covers both lines; you will also find the MRT every bit as convenient - and sometimes more so.

YouTube has demos on how to use both. Also, if you're over 55, MRT has a Child/Elder option (might require a small bond) that reduces fares to, I think, less than1/2 price. PM me if you need more info.

Any BTS station ticketing booth will sell you a single ride, single day (unlimited travel), store value or 30-day "ride" (SmartPass) card. Single ride cards are available at the ticketing machines. All cards/tickets are good on both the Sukhumvit and Silom lines.

Most tourists buy a stored-value Rabbit card, or a single day ticket.

A 30-day "ride" card does represent a value, especially for trips of 3 or more stations, if purchasing the 50 ride card, but you do have to use the rides within 30 days, and you need to add additional value to cover the 15 baht surcharge for stations beyond On Nut, down to Baaring, Bang Wa to Pho Nimit.

For those with similar needs longer term I have a "BTS sky smartpass" which doesn't have the short time limit. I've been using it since my wife gave it to me over 2 years ago; says it is valid for 5 years with a 2 year limit on stored value since last top-up.

This.

Buy a Rabbit at the station. Give it some carrots and top it up whenever you're in BKK.

The MRT Elder option, which cut the price in half, is valid from 65 years of age. However, up to July 2, 2016 it is also valid for 60 years up as a special promotion.

So no elder option for BTS?

Only for Thai citizens. Not for foreigners.

Many Thais will have two cards - one 30-day card for longer trips, and a stored value card for short trips.

I was just in bangkok the other day. The rabbit card can be used at a lot of places. Shopping malls, 7-eleven, etc in addition to bts. It's a great little card to have....dont have to wait to buy individual tickets.

Too bad you cannot use it on MRT. Kind of silly

Didn't the Thai gov't announce many times that they were making the payment systems the same for all means of public transport? What happened? bah.gif

Does the value of the rabbit card ever expire?

How do you know the balance left on the card?

I think officially it is 2 years of unused balance. But i will find out the next time i go.

Balance should be able to be checked at any kiosk where rabbit purchases are accepted. When you spend, you will be told how much purchase was and how much balance is remaining on receipt (bts exit it will be on screen). You should also be able to only check balance at a manned kiosk. I don't think there is any online checking.
