Going back a while I read a post that if one was to join the expats club that meet on a Sunday then for some reason it is a painless experience to open a bank account with a bank on 2nd road by soi 6. Can some one please confirm this and where is the meeting house, bar, hotel ? I want to ship some SA rand in to fund my little sojurn so a bank account will be handy,

Many thanks.

No need to join the Expats Clubs. Its a pretty painless experience to open a bank a/c in Pattaya. I've found Siam Commercial Bank to be the most farang friendly bank.

As COBBER said SCB is indeed a good bank and it is quite straight forward to open a savings account, you just need your passport and a place of residence, I think even a hotel is acceptable.

Bangkok Bank is my preferred choice. I have banked with them for over ten years and cannot fault their service. I have sent over many numerous Telegraphic Transfers from Europe and all have arrived promptly; 2-3 working days maximum. They provide internet banking as well which is useful for paying bills and transferring money etc.

I would avoid Thai Military Bank like the plague. I recently had cause to send a Foreign Telegraphic Transfer there. Debited from my UK account on the 19th October, credited to my TMB account 8th November despite my numerous protestations as to their ineptitude.
