nickcar Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Dear satelite dish experts . I would greatly appreciate some help. I live in Nakhon Nayok. I started 6/7 years ago using IPM, little dish like True.. Very good selection of stations no monthly fee, and a good interface on the box. Got sick of the regular rainouts and need to replace- adjust the dish head so changed to a bigger dish (probably 1.5 metre without measuring) got 2nd hand with samart box. Reception has aways been good. Lately found a few good stations disappeared due to changing mhz or something and samart say the box is to old to adjust. It uses thaicomm 5. Box interface is very bad, can only view about 10 stations when browsing but used to be able to view about 50 on the ipm. So i a. Hoping i can buy a new and better box without having to tune the dish. Preferably one that has some english language stations. I also want to add a second box to receive in another room. Can anyone advise: Good box that uses thaicomm 5. What adjustments do i need to make to add a second box. Samart says the dish will need a new head that allows two boxes, if it is true i dont mind provided i dont have to string a second cable to it. Many thanks Nick
worgeordie Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 You should try IPTV, so many channels in English for free,I ditched my Sat.dishes 2-3 years ago, streaming from a PC or Android box to your Tv,thats if you have Internet. regards Worgeordie
nickcar Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 Thanks fo that. I have thought about it carefully. I use TOT wifi with,a 15 metre post with the aerial on it. Usually it is acceptable. It is supposed to,be 10 mb .5 mb but I rarely get that. Mostly 3-5 mb which is probably acceptable for streaming. However it often goes down, and sometimes for several days at a time so i would still need somethimg else.
jonwilly Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Is IPTV a computer connection via a HDMI cable ? Or is it a Wi FI connection to a Wi Fi capable TV ? I know very little on modern computer matter and neither do my mates of my age group. john
Litlos Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 To split the signal to two points you can use a I to 2 switch http://www.9sat.com/product/product.detail.php?&cat=75&id=772 . The problem is you then need a decoder box at each point. No a big thing unless you have pay TV. What Samart mean is a double output head and yes this means another cable. I have shown a basic switch which is non powered and will introduce a small amount of line loss, there are powered amplifier switches available that actually boost the signal, but bigger price and for a 2 point split probably not required. For free TV not so good, though I am sure there are packages out there. I am looking at CTH as they have some low cost packages available at http://www.cth.co.th/compare . It used to be Grammy and they had good options, but sold out to CTH. I have not tried them yet. When using Grammy I could switch English/Thai on the remote, not so many channels now under CTH, so you would need to check that they do transmit in English. Cheers
Paul944 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Here are the channels listed that you can get from Thaicom-5 http://www.lyngsat.com/Thaicom-5.html. If your sat receiver does not support DVB-S2 it is time to buy another. If you favorite channels moved to another satellite you have to readjust the dish.
