Country Scooter rides no longer so relaxed!

Featured Replies

Have been staying at a home 13 kms out from a northern Thailand country town recently.

I was looking forward to daily round trips on a Honda Wave but now not so sure.

Have had scooters come out from nowhere, the riders not even looking, and those large 2 1/2 seater pickups such as the Vigo and others just enter your path even when you're almost right on them.

A large percentage have heavily tinted windows, including the windscreen (illegal in my country) making the transgressors anonymous.

Even after barging out, some just then toodle along holding you up as though you don't even exist.

Even some trucks loaded with soil just barged out when I'm metres from them, no one wanting to stop for a moment, even if it's at someone else's expense.

I'm beginning to think it's not if but when I come a cropper.

I'm now watching my speed, giving me more control should someone enter my path.

Not sure but after 3065 posts you would think that we don't need three copies.

Answer. Yes you have to look out for yourself but also if you ride like a victim...

The copies is due to a data base issue.

It was happening to a few posters.

You need to have your bike blessed by 9 monks and increase the number of amulets worn around your person by 100 %

the rest is down to "fate"

New to the roads as a driver.

It's a steep learning curve and you can consider yourself happy to come out unharmed.

But I like your drawn from life observations biggrin.png

An average day back and forth to work and out for lunch in town traffic, a total of about 18km's on average results in having to swerve or break 6 times a day for the lovely drivers that think its their right of way because you are on a bike, big or small. However, anticipate ! is the key ...remain calm is the 'survivor' and look around you 360 degrees at all times ...stuff appears from all angles eh. After 13 plus years of this I must be almost immune to the standard of road use here ... we can't change how 'they' drive here so chill out and enjoy ...if it makes you angry every day then buy a car.

Not so much angry but feeling vulnerable.

I don't think Thailand is the best place to sustain serious injuries.

This is Thailand, the majority of Thai drivers and motorcyclists are decent helpful people, but with no common sense at all, unfortunately that also means the majority of the Thai population.

DELETED for telling the truth the way I see it.

You can still be 99% safe if you have genuine common sense and be prepared to ride without speeding, riding defensively, and expect these M/Cs and drivers to come out in front of you, and cut you up when they want to do a left hand turn after overtaking you.

DELETED that they will not wait three seconds for you to pass when they want to come out of a side road on to the main road, but will think nothing of sitting for an hour in a Bangkok traffic jam. Rant over.

I drive hyper-defesively here. Constantly scanning all around me for possible problems. No easy answers, TIT
