Re capers. Just thought about salted sardines would make great on a pizza.
I never looked for them, are they available here?

I've seen them in oil, but not in salt.

 

But what's wrong with good ole anchovies ?

Sure, Makro has them in glass jars and small tins and I'm sure Tops has them too. 

 

Quite expensive at around thb 150 for approx 50gr drained weight of fish. I buy them in bulk (vacuum sealed bags of 1 kg) at the same shop (in fact a hotel supply) as the capers above, and at home I put them in jars and pour sunflower oil over them. Anchovies became very popular with my (Thai) family; don't want to become the first falang who faces bankruptcy because of some small fish you see....

Alone 900g dough, I'll eat one week from that [emoji23]
But the idea itself is not so bad though I must say the taste might be not that good.
Only looks good.
Prefer regular crispy pizza instead.

I got the pizza dough risin'  (more yeast this time) and gettin' ready to have at 'er again...gonna use the same toppings for 2 pizzas...

 

went down to tescos to get some mozzarella and they didn't have the  250g tesco brand blocks in vacuum pack like  before but they had this stuff (see photo)...anybody use this before?

 

I was searchin' for the mozzarella blocks and cursing and then the evil step daughter who was standing there coughed and indicated the stuff in the picture,  and she can't even read english...dear buddha (she thinks) is tutsi ever a dumb falang...

 

and then on the way home I said that I was gonna make pizza and she narrowed her eyes and looked at me sideways like Schwartznegger behind the wheel in The Terminator...

Not used before. I use soft fresh mozzarella from Big C.
Either Casino (imported) or Caroline brand (Thai).
Surprisingly the imported is cheaper.
But looks for a good combination of cheese for quattro formaggi pizza.
I used to add some blue cheese as well.

hmm, quattro formaggi makes sense...I thought the dudes were tryin' to be clever by sweeping up the dog ends of grated cheese at the packaging plant, grinding together and etc...

I like a calzone pizza and really enjoy the pizza base stuffed with 'toppings'. Might seriously have a go at that cake.

That goes for all grated cheese in bags.
Confirmed from a friend who works in food industry.
Same for most fine ground sausages.
People think there is good meat in it.

Any suggestions for the "stuff" between the buns.
No pork please, so bacon is unfortunately out [emoji22]
Classic with tomato, cheese?
Hawaii with grilled pineapple?

Thin sliced onion and tomato. Lettuce, ketchup, mustard, mayo, 'plastic' cheese slice. Pineapple is for pudding.

You need to train your gf that the world does not stop at the mosque of her village. Mine was not happy with my food habits too in the beginning, but is used to it now. Now she often comes into the kitchen and says "oh this smells good, what is it?".Me: "take a guess darling, you want to try?"

 

Besides, they are all stupid hypocrites. Pork derivatives are used in almost everything: from their lipstick, to the jellies they love so much and even the filters of their brother's cigarettes. 

 

Last week my wife came back from a trip from BKK carrying 7 kgs of a local delicacy: some kind of rice sausage. Rise is kosher of course, but not if you stuff it in pork casings. And even if it were collagen casings; the collagen is most likely also made of pork. Maybe they don't know it, but I think they choose to ignore. Didn't tell her this time as I did not want to take the risk to trow away 7kg of sausages (or worse: have to eat them by myself), but I tried it in the past, and it is like talking to the Chinese wall - as long as the iman not objects it is ok.

 

So if I make a burger, I make it the way I like: with bacon. But I don't aks her to clean the dishes :smile:

Merci beaucoup, Yeah, it was not bad....

Actually she's okay if I eat pork when we have dinner.
Just as a courtesy and also if I or we cook there's no pork of course.
If we buy food or going out I can order pork for me alone, no problem.
We also use the same kitchen.
Don't tell anyone, she's also occasionally drinking alcohol when we go out 555

However, I don't know where you come from, but to me this whole halal concept was absolutely new.
In Germany I had a lot of Muslim friends from​Turkey and for them it was absolutely okay to eat in the same restaurant or kitchen as they cooked pork.
These Asian Muslims are so strict, especially Malaysia and Indonesia.
I can't go out to eat with them at a random restaurant only if it's halal.
At study trips they rather eat food from 7-11 for a few days than eating from a non-halal restaurant.
Take fried chicken street food vendors for example. They only sell chicken.
But if no sign or muslim owner, they don't eat it....

Burger's for dinner yesterday have been a treat.
The buns I tried to bake for the first time and were to die for, excellent.
For ingredients I prepared caramelized onions, sautéed mushroom, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, chili sauce, blue cheese, cheese slices, pickled jalapeños, onion and tomato slices.
I made three different burger combinations:
- Classic, with mayo, mustard, ketchup, cheese slice, tomato and onion
- Blue Cheese, mayo, caramelized onions, sautéed mushroom
- Mexican, with jalapeños, double cheese, chili sauce, tomato and onions

My favourite was the blue cheese burger closely followed by classic burger.
Mexican style tasted to much only the chili sauce. Next time experiment with salsa, some avocado and nachos

Nothing, but when I saw that pic I had to think about lasagna: also tomato sauce with meat and cheese between layers of dough. And it was ages ago I made it, so...

Don't know if you have ever been in Turkey, but their national drink is Raki, some kind of Pernod. And beer is available everywhere over there. 

 

From my experience, there are many graduations in religious fanaticism over here. At first, I didn't notice that my gf at the time was a Muslim, and when I found out, it was too late :shock1: In reality she doesn't drink (as most Thai woman) and doesn't eat pork (as I don't eat seafood), so I don't care.  Restaurants don't need to be halal, but if they only sell pork, she will avoid them of course. Not touching pork is another thing: she will not clean the dishes if she knows they have been in contact with pork. On the other hand, it is no problem to use the same kitchen tools as I do. And if for instance if I make pizza, I suppose she knows I use the same cutting board, knife etc for her chicken pizza as for my pepperoni one. And meat from Tesco or Big C is also fine, even as she (should) know that they don't have a separate butchery for the chicken and pig. I fail completely to understand the logic behind this, but I don't complain...

 

But yes, some guys over here are worse as the taliban. Fortunately, we have nothing to do with them and I have the impression that my wife is also not very keen with them. And what also helps (as for every woman): move to a place far, far away from her family! There is no mosque in a 100 km radius from where I live, so at least they can not wake me up at 4.30 in the morning with their annoying call for the morning prayer.

Halal is ritually slaughtered so the issue is it not being ritually slaughtered regardless of chicken or not.

Yesterday I did a slow roast beef briskit, at least I think it was briskit. Last time we were staying with my BIL my wife got some good beef steak so I asked her to get me some briskit. I gave her the drawing of a cow and explained what I wanted and that, I think Is what I got.

 

I followed the recipe that I got from the internet and it turned out OK but in a thick slice it was a little tough. When I cut it up it came out OK.

 

I even ended up with a small amount mof beef dripping too.

I actually bought it to try to make corned beef American style but as I haven't had homemade roast beef in years I thought I would try that instead.

 

After I had finished I cut the beef into thick slices and froze them. I have enough beef now for another 8 meals.

 

Today I fried up the leftover spuds, onions and garlic with some steak left over from last nights dinner, in a wok and used the dripping and beef juices to cook it, along with a generous dosage of Lea & Perrins Worcester sauce which for some reason seems to be freely available at Makro.

Sorry it's in German but I think with Google translate it should work out.
Slight modification, because I used dry yeast (2g) and cold milk I let the dough first outside at room temperature for 2 hours after kneading to activate the yeast.
Then just followed the recipe
