Just spent a weekend there.

On arrival at Imm' I was asked for boarding card and proof of return, ie air ticket.

Don't know if that's the standard requirement or not. Just posting for info'

Got 15 days stamp (UK Passport) but still no news if that has finished or not.

You're in Saigon asking about the requirements for a period of stay in Vietnam?

I think the poster was just informing us that UK passport can still get the 15 day on arrival in Vietnam. It was supposed to be a temporary trial by Vietnam for 7 European countries to receive 15 days on arrival instead of requiring a visa, This was supposed to end in June or July 2016

With the OP having 'just spent a weekend there', he may have arrived on Friday 1st July so one must assume visa-free entry for certain nationalities didn't expire end of June.

The concession has been extended for a further year vietnamembassy - Notice5

Also just for info as my first post I said they were asking for proof of return flight and the boarding card tag. Noticed quite a few people scrabbling around in hand bags etc to find them.

Just letting people know they may be asked for them, so don't leave it on the plane.

Excellent news! My multi-entry (work) expires mid- July and I have unfinished business in Saigon late July.... plus Mrs NL wants a second "Second Honeymoon'''.... again.

They will accept a copy of the return flight reservation viewed on a smart phone as well as a paper copy. Keep your boarding passes too since they probably have to be on alert for dodgy foreigners not really leaving the country and doing a body swerve in the transit areas just like some were able to do at Suvarnabhumi a few years ago when life was easier.
