Bastille Day killer ate pork, drank alcohol, then radicalised very quickly – prosecutor

PARIS: -- The man who rammed a lorry into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice showed signs of radicalisation only shortly before his attack, which killed 84 people and injured scores, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said on Monday.

Tunisian-born delivery man Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, who was not on any police watchlist, did not appear to be a devout Muslim as he ate pork, drank alcohol, took drugs and had an “unbridled” sex life, Molins told a news conference.

Lahouaiej Bouhlel was described by his family and neighbours as a violent man, and he grew a beard on religious grounds just eight days before the attack, the prosecutor added.

While there is no evidence at this stage that Lahouaiej Bouhlel actually had ties with the group calling itself Islamic State – which claimed responsibility for the attack – a search of his computer and mobile phone showed a clear and recent interest for Islamist militancy and violent imagery, Molins said.

The prosecutor, who did not take any questions from reporters, said six people were still held for questioning on Monday, including one person who appeared to have received the text message the driver sent the evening of his rampage.

The investigation showed Lahouaiej Bouhlel had tried in late June to get a 5,000-euro bank loan, which was denied.

Photos and videos linked to radical Islam were also found on his phone and computer, as well as videos of deadly car crashes. Since the beginning of July, Lahouaiej Bouhlel looked up verses of the Koran online almost every day, as well as Islamic songs used by Islamic State as propaganda tools, Molins said.

Most of those killed in the July 14 attack have now been identified, and dozens more remain in hospital.

He was not a very devout Muslim. He was only fanatical about the killing infidels part.

Bet he doesn't get the 72 virgins then - shame that...whistling.gif

IIRC acting outside the tenets of islam is acceptable if needed to fool the infidels.

Everybody can be turned from a "Ghandi" to a "Hitler" in a little time.

No need to be a devout follower of any religion.

Just use the right methods of propaganda and brainwashing.

Pavlov was one of the many to show how to brainwash animals and people.

And you can bet on it that the Muslim leaders know very good how to use the brainwash techniques to turn anybody to a criminal.

By focusing only on people's past to be branded as a criminal makes no sense and others are being left exposed to be the victims of terrorist activities.

They should better look where the leaders (Imam) are and stop them with their brainwash activities.

On a sidenote, this is true for EVERY religion.

Somehow, the leaders of every religion are experts on brainwashing..

That white kid in America who killed 22 kids in Connecticut didn't give up his Christian ways. He was a Christian before and during his killing. I guess he is off the western world leader board now with thug in Paris in.

Should we call him "the Great White Hope"? You are comparing one outbreak of mental illness to the epidemic sweeping the world.

He also had a 73 Year old Male Lover....... And seemingly a string of other relationships...

By the way he killed a few Muslims too...but

...in the French medias they have shown again and again the first body on the road was from a Muslim's Tunisian woman, also a Tunisian man who lost his four years old son and his wife. So much so that In the French Social Networks many answers ironically were, he did try to kill Muslims and the French dead peoples were only collateral damages whistling.gif

The prevalent theory is that he did them a favour, as muslims killed as part of jihad are granted immediate entry to paradise. Not sure what a 4yo does with 72 virgins.

OK... without your help I would not have understood that thumbsup.gif

I think one of the biggest mistakes they always make is to publicize these type of guys in the newspapers around the world.

One day a "Nobody"! The next day "World Famous"!

The only problem with that is that for a "Nobody" to become "World Famous" he has to kill a bunch of innocent people for no reason. Time to hold the Press on these reporting. Skip his name at least.
