Information Needed for Kidney Dialysis

Featured Replies

I have a friend when he returns from the States will be needing regular Kidney Dialysis, anyone have any experience/recommendation Doctor in this area. Cost for treatment would be very helpful. He is a resident of Pattaya.

Thank you in advance.

Hemodialysis is available in most large hospitals here, government and private, but extremely expensive in prtvate hospitals and not so cheap for a foreigner in a govt hospital either (though of course much less than in a private one).

In Pattaya, BPH and the government hospital in Chonburi would be sources, but I really recommend against someone dependent on hemodialysis coming back to Pattaya. In fact would recommend against returning to Thailand period, but if he must, then Bangkok or Chiang Mai are better choices in terms of health care.

In addition to the enormous costs of dialysis, as a dialysis-dependent person he is prone to many medical complications and can expect to be in and out of hospitals for various problems. Will his insurance cover all of this?

We pay 2200 Baht per session at Phuket International hospital.

Although my wife is eligible for "the 30 Baht scheme" the waiting time at the local government hospitals is 6 months plus.

In Bangkok it cost her 3500 Baht for a private session.

A friend of mine is getting it at the Nakon Phanom hospital, 3 times a week €60 each time, his Dutch insurance company loves him, as the price in Holland is ten times more expensive.

I like to thank everyone who has responded to my question, especially Sheryl, for his private messages. This is a very good start for further research but keep it coming if there are more suggestions!

Thank you all...

It was Rama Thibodee - but apparently she only got ahead of the private queue because she is on their transplant list.

Kidney dialysis is in high demand in Thailand.

Best your friend Google private clinics in Bangkok.

Given the price at The Red Cross Hospital Bangkok in May.........3 times a week cost [best deal] 300,000 baht for the year.

That sounds about right, and note that it is the cost at a government hospital...private would be many fold ore.

Is Red Cross in Bangkok consider public or private?
