Hogwash.  More likely the opposite is true:  If she has both parents as farang, she's probably taller than the other girls her age.  That's an attribute for volleyball.  It's much more likely her prowess at the game is the reason the opposing team put forth the ridiculous racist restriction.

I went to a UK school for one year, when I was 13.  It was at an all-boys boarding school (parents were a continent away).  I was captain of the school's basketball team, even though I was 4 yrs younger than the average player.   Each game we played, I scored over half the total points of both sides.  In effect, it was like a basketball lesson for the other boys because I was from the US, and the Brits were neophytes at the game.  (it would have been similar to a British boy going to play soccer in the US at that time - when American boys were awful at soccer).  Anyhow, there was never any mention of me being disqualified for not being a British subject (or object or preposition).  After each game, the opposing team players would come up to me beaming and shake my hand with genuine appreciation for a game 'well played.'

As a "farang" teacher working in Thai schools for over a dozen years, I cannot be too encouraging.  

As foreign teachers, we are locked out of teacher meetings, teacher trips, teacher "freebies" (giveaway shirts, etc.), and all of the teacher benefits (low-cost loans, insurance, etc.).  Our school sponsored a dinner & concert a few years ago, and all teachers had free admittance--except the foreign teachers, of course, who were expected to cough up 300B for "special tickets" for the evening.   Of course, the foreign teachers didn't show up, and then they were bad-mouthed for not having a team spirit.  

The discrimination is open, shameless, and deeply entrenched.      

Don't hold your breath.  

I have none of those issues. Your school sucks.

I've met language teachers at my kids' schools who couldn't speak the language of the country they taught in for over a decade. Hard to believe but true. 

Last week I met a guy who said he'd been here for 18 years and spoke Thai, he didn't even know what month it was!!!!!!!!!

I still have not figured out how the USA Olympic Basketball "Dream" Team was made up entirely of professional athletes and you want me to figure out why your little girl can't play volleyball in the some backwoods Thai elementary school??  In this country the rules are there ain't no rules.  Grease a few palms and see what happens.

Yes, and the reality is that in practice no one asks for such a certificate and the transcript issued by the school is the first thing people need to provide, especially when they go on to higher eduction.

 

If Mor 6 or Mor 3 is the person's highest qualification than not having an official certificate might not be particularly good ten years later, as they have to show some dated transcripts or request new ones from the school that by then might have lost them. The point is that regardless of absurd governmental regulations about certification practices, there is no need for the school to arbitrarily discriminant against pupils on the bases of nationality and refusing them to part take in a sports competition. Neither can we use this policy to judge the OP's personal situation as to why he deems this school adequate or inadequate for his child. I certainly would not make such comment, because I have not seen the school and don't know anything so ever about the OP's life. I'm sorry to spell it out so directly, dear Mr Briggsy; I hope you understand my hesitations in agreeing with some of these posts here on this topic. We hope it somehow works out for the OP and his daughter.

Do you think the people criticizing what happened to that poor child, would have behaved differently if the parts involved were inverted, as in a thai child denied to be treated as all her other fellow western students?

Maybe it's time to wake up and smell the coffee, there is nothing absolutely nothing that could justify these abuses, no matter the nationality or race involved, who try to justify it are as wrong as the ones who did it, no excuses.

So far you have failed to get anything correct in this thread. 

I have no desire to live in Thailand or even visit this place but I am married to a Thai woman and her family responsibilities occasionally bring us here. 

 

I have never been burnt in Thailand, not even by the sun.
