NAYPYITAW: -- Security for state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will be stepped up after there are reports that she has been marked on an IS target list in Malaysia, the Irrawaddy Online reported on Wednesday quoting the President’s Office spokesman.

Zaw Htay told the Irrawaddy Online that the President’s Office could not underestimate the reported IS threat although it was not worried too much.

“We will take this matter seriously and will step up security during her local and international tours,” said the spokesman.

The Straits Times reported on Tuesday that Suu Kyi was on IS hit list sent to Malaysia’s Negri Sembilan police station on Monday along with the Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak, his deputy, the attorney-general, the police inspector-general and three ministers.

The report said that the two-page letter entitled “IS threat” included the targeted people and claimed there were 700 IS members in Negri Sembilan. The Malaysian police have dismissed the claim, but said they would investigate the authenticity of the of the letter and try to establish the identity of the sender.

It's probably a hoax letter, designed to divert attention away from the most corrupt public official of recent times, the Malaysian Official No. 1, of the 1MDB scandal.
