Olympics: Calculating top medal winners

Featured Replies

Is there an official way the medal winners are listed by their country’s achievements?

From what I have seen so far it looks pretty subjective. For example, the UK Telegraph newspaper lists their table by number of gold, then silver, then bronze. However, Reuters lists them by “total medals won”.

At the point when Japan and Great Britain both had seven gold, Reuters showed Japan as third in the league table and GB as fourth as Japan had a higher overall total, but the Telegraph showed GB third and Japan fourth as GB had eight silver and Japan three.

Lot of BS concerning the medal table...

If the medal table are to be a true representation of the effort put in by each country they should be based on each countries population.

And Silver should be worth 2 Bronze, and Gold worth 2 Silver.
