BANGKOK — A number of security analysts said the evidence now suggests beyond a reasonable doubt that insurgents fighting for independence in the Deep South were behind the bomb attacks in southern Thailand last week.

While the authorities continue to insist that the ethnic-religious conflict had nothing to do with the bombings which hit on the Queen’s birthday, the scholars point to methods and motives they say leaves the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, or BRN, the only viable perpetrators.

If it is the BRN, then it's big step up in their fight for independence.

This could escalate into a very bad time for Thailand, or at least Southern Thailand !!

The government "intelligence" doesn't seem to able to prevent it happening.

If Khaosod runs a story that the Southern groups are involved their is a slight chance that it is a group related to the red shirts that might be involved.

Thaksin surely was not involved but some fanatics in the red shirt movements that feel violence is the only means now left.

I've been saying for many years that one day these Separatists will expand their 'operations' in a Northerly direction as the world in general takes little notice of their efforts in the Deep South.   Also; whilst Tourism and the economy in general will be hit it is meant as a wake up call to all those sleepy High So's who live in the Capital and own many business's in the top tourist area's and would normally completely ignore what goes on down South.   It would never surprise me if Bangkok and its 'rulers' became targets as things escalate, as there is no better way for them to 'get noticed' than hitting who and where it hurts most.

Tourism makes up around 10% of GDP, so no it would not be a lost cause. The tourists will always keep coming.

Doesn't make sense. If these were terror attacks with the intention of making a point or spreading a message, then why has nobody claimed responsibility? Surely that's the very first thing you would do?
