While the UK question hangs over Europe, Brexit is not on the official agenda for the upcoming informal EU Summit on 16 September in Bratislava

A flurry of pre-summit meetings have already been taking place in the Slovakian capital.

European Council President Donald Tusk told media: “The people of Slovakia, Poland, Belgium, all of Europe expect that the EU, after Bratislava, will again be a guarantee of stability, security and protection – protection in the widest meaning, including social and economic protection.”

European foreign ministers have already convened, including British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

“We may be leaving the European Union but we are not leaving Europe. The UK, the British government, Theresa May is absolutely committed to participation in European foreign policy cooperation, European defence, security cooperation. That is the name of the game here today in Bratislava,” said on Friday.

Johnson’s boss however will not be present for the main summit of EU heads of state on 16 September.

Although the Brexit process has not officially begun, British Prime Minister Theresa May was not invited to the summit.
