BANGKOK: -- The physical education teacher who threw a ceramic mug at a female student causing her face disfigurement has been found guilty of minor disciplinary violation – short of gross disciplinary violation.

Mr Chukiat Visetsena, director of 31st Office of Secondary Education Service, said Friday that the panel investigating the mug-throwing incident headed by Mr Samak Waikhunthod, director of Suranaree Witthaya school, had concluded that the teacher, 58-year old Mr Paithoon Klangkrathok, threw a coffee mug into a group of students and did not specifically aimed at the victim, 17-year Narudee Jodsanthia.

The probe committee, he said, heard testimonies from the victim’s classmates that the mug hit the frame of a window and bounced off, striking the victim’s head.

Chukiat said the panel found the teacher guilty for violating teacher’s law which amounted to minor disciplinary violation.

An ignorant and pathetic display by people you think ought to know better.

"He threw a mug into a group of students, but was not actually intending to hit anyone." So that's OK then?

"...... found guilty of minor disciplinary violation – short of gross disciplinary violation."

I suppose if he had killed her it would be a gross violation.:bah:

This character should not be around schoolchildren of any age. Counselling might help.

A minor disciplinary violation, that may well lead to the victim, having lifelong problems!

Sounds about right!

I wonder what a student gets for throwing a mug at a teacher?  Thailand should have a national mug throwing day in school.

The education system is as corrupt if not more corrupt as any of the other public service systems in Thailand.

Countdown time.....only 7,300 days to go before Thailand is corruption free.

This is all you need to hear in order to understand the value this society places on "education", life, equality and fairness.

Nothing less than assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Education Department is a disgrace and should sack him and the RTP charge him.

So teachers are not forbidden to cripple our children but they will be given a strong talking to, when it happens.

Heaven forbid he's disciplined etc in a proper manner as it sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

The feeling of authority can't be undermined.

And when she next sees him, she will have to give him a warm smile and a very deep and respectful wai as if he's the most important person in her life. All the other kids, too, I guess.

Found this regarding school in Kohrat. Says all we need to know about the education system.

Suranaree Wittaya School

Suranaree Wittaya school in Nakhon Ratchasima.

It is a girls only fee paying school often described as the top school in the region.

It permits teachers to hit children and when they do so takes no action against the teachers involved.

There was a video posted on youtube of a teacher beating several girls in 2008 (three years after it was made illegal) but the video was removed in January 2011 after the school was investigated by the Ministry of Education over the incident.

The teacher is this video subsequently “retired” biut faced no official sanction or punishment as far as we are aware. If she did this was not officially published by the school.

They should have had a judge order him to anger management classes.

The sad thing is, overall - this is considered perfectly acceptable behaviour!

Schools cannot permit teachers to hit children. They cannot ignore the law.

The MoE have stated teachers must not hit children as it is against the law. If a teacher does he/she breaks the law, which is a criminal act and therefore the teacher becomes a criminal. Those were the MoE words, and in the same media release they encouraged parents to always complain to police, and not to simply accept apologies or some money.

So come'on MoE - do something. Wake up RTP and start doing your duty.

The truth is, this outcome on the criminal side isn't much different than back home.  Though negligent and completely out of line, the guy did not intend to harm anyone.

Injuries like the victim suffered are generally handled on the civil side where a lawsuit back home would see the guy paying restitution for the rest of his life.

Here in Thailand, I doubt he'll be paying anything beyond next Tuesday.

But hey, maybe justice will be served this time and he'll have to think about what he did every month when he has to deliver the payment against her settlement.  For years and years.

1,000 Baht, a slap on the shoulder, secret transfer,... case closed, wanna bet?

it is already a done deal. i have been thinking very seriously about it. maybe it is the right way considering the number of years he has served without any serious issue.
