Illegal Poker Den Busted in Bangkok Warehouse, 52 Arrested, 50 Million in Chips Seized
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Police have raided an illegal poker den operating out of a converted warehouse in Bang Kapi, Bangkok, arresting 52 gamblers, including both Thai and foreign nationals. Authorities seized poker chips worth approximately 51 million baht along with cash in multiple currencies. The raid took place and was led by Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, alongside senior officers from Ladprao Police Station and investigative units. The illegal gambling operation was found inside a fully air-conditioned warehouse in Soi Phokeaw 3, Klong Chan subdistrict. Police detained Mr. Sithisak 39, on charges of organising illegal gambling, along with 51 others from Thailand, Vietnam, Israel, Belarus, Pakistan, Denmark, India, China, Singapore, Iceland, and Russia. Authorities confiscated: Three poker tables 66 decks of playing cards Two laptops A banknote counting machine A digital timer display Two chip storage cases Among the seized poker chips were: 891 red chips (100 baht each) - 89,100 baht 2,167 black chips (1,000 baht each) - 2,167,000 baht 1,700 yellow chips (10,000 baht each) - 17,000,000 baht 300 blue chips (500 baht each) - 150,000 baht 1,700 green chips (50 baht each) - 5,000 baht 500 brown chips and 29 pink chips 320 large chips (100,000 baht each) - 32,000,000 baht Additionally, police found: 315,050 baht in banknotes 1,900 US dollars A Single 100-yuan Chinese banknote The operation was prompted by a tip-off from an informant, who reported large-scale gambling activity at the location. Officers conducted surveillance before launching the raid at 21. 19 on 4 March, catching players in the act of placing bets and exchanging money. All 52 individuals admitted to gambling, and police transfed them, along with the seized items, to Ladprao Police Station for further processing. The alleged organiser, Mr. Sithisak, faces charges of operating an illegal gambling establishment, while the 51 other suspects have been charged with participating in unlawful gambling. Thai law strictly prohibits unauthorised gambling, with penalties including fines and imprisonment. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and further legal action will be taken in accordance with Thailand’s Gambling Act. -- 2025-03-05 -
