BANGKOK: -- Minor parties yesterday complained that the Bt10,000 fee for registering MP candidates was too high, and asked that it be reduced to Bt1,000 as members of small parties were mostly underprivileged and would have trouble covering the cost.

They were speaking at a seminar held yesterday by the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) to gauge views in relation to organic laws on political parties and MP election.

US is soon having an election where the 325 million inhabitants can choose between 2 parties, Thailand with its 67 million inhabitants had 68 parties to choose between in the last election.

It is about time to reduce the number of small parties whos only reason for existing is to be bought up by a major party after the election.

The MP registration fee should instead be raised rather than reduced.

Only americans think the world should be more like the US. The rest shudder at the thought.

BTW how much do those 2 parties spend on an election campaign?

The new Mixed Members Apportionment (MMA) electoral system prescribed in the 2016 draft constitution will likely cause an increase in the number of small parties. The MMA will further fragment the effectiveness of the House and compromise the selection of a PM.

Thailand will be the only nation in the world to use the MMA system.

Have to keep out the riff raff.

Exactly, we don't want those lower class peasants in government. We don't want the peasants living in our neighborhoods. We don't want them going to the same school that our children go to. We don't want our children to marry them and we don't want to socialize with them. We want to use the peasants as a source of inexpensive labor, and when they are finished working, we want them to go to their section of the city.

1 Baht or 1 million Baht, what does it matter? They will only be there to execute the policies of the NCPO and carry the can for their failures. I do not understand why anyone independent would be interested in the first place.

You can't feed at the trough if you're outside the sty.

That's right! So they are completely Incoherent!  Or is it a subtle Thai application of the Yin and Yang principle?  :)

Read Thai history! These are exactly the thoughts of the governing class, they've been in place for over a hundred years! :wai:
