Oh, this is JapanVisa now?

You asked who eats rice with chopsticks as if doing so was unusual. So I just tried to educate you a little bit by pointing out a simple fact. It is okay you are allowed to be wrong once in awhile.

Yes. Because in Thailand, it is.

Who eats fried rice with chopsticks, though?

Maybe its just the poor people who pay 50 Baht for rice dishes that use chopsticks, the 90 Baht places that you frequent and non poor people frequent, are more sophisticated and thus use forks and spoons

Wow. You have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about that one, don't you?

Here's 100 baht. Treat yourself to a fancy dinner tonight on me.

I would suggest that more folk on our planet eat with chop sticks, spoons, fingers than us knife and fork folk...

Yes. The irony of that statement was the basis of the joke I was making.

Do try and keep up.

Maybe so. But this forum is about Thailand. Surely even the least observant amongst us will have noticed that Thai people don't use chopsticks to eat rice?

It wasnt a funny joke, nor was it an obvious joke .

Maybe it would have been funny if we were in a real life situation and you said it in a jokey voice, but it just didnt transmit too well as  written words on a forum

It wasn't obvious that I was joking?

You failed to notice I wasn't actually handing you a 100B note?

You are wrong again....You really must keep up with Thai stuff....Mrs.Trans eats with chop sticks with certain food....Restaurants we frequent give chop sticks, I ask for my tools......Perhaps you spend your time in BK or McD's, but there is a Thai eating culture out there perhaps beyond your boundaries...

Certain foods, yes. You haven't really paid much attention to which ones, clearly.

I really do not notice that kind of thing .

When I go out to eat, I dont look whether other people are either using a knife and fork or chopsticks or what nationality they are .

Theres a whole world out there that Im oblivious too .

In future when I go out to eat, I will observe which utensils people are using

What keen students of cultural differences some of you are. I can really see why you wanted to live in another culture.

You are out of your depth with this one as you know nothing about Thai eating utensils...Ask your bird and come back to us.....Theres a good chap...

Calm down and take a breath. Step outside and get some air.

No, I did realise that it was a hypothetical situation and that you wasnt really giving me 100 Baht .

I did realise that it was hypothical, but I didnt realise that it was a joke

And your reason.....?

I know they don't eat rice with chopsticks. Which puts me one up on you.

Funny how someone who's presumably sat opposite a Thai women for hundreds of meals can have missed a detail like that, though.

As if you needed that to be one up. You start from a self elevated sense of superiority over everybody else.

So your bird uses a shovel and that's it.............?.....Gawd 'elp us....:saai:

Not everybody else, no.

Only your bird who can't use chop sticks eh.............

My wife can use chopsticks perfectly well. She doesn't use them to eat rice, though - and neither does yours.

The difference, I guess, is that I pay enough attention to her to notice what she does.

This has devolved into pretty much a "your mother wears combat boots" sort of feel. Can we simply just get back to belittling cheapskates?

It certainly wasnt to see whether natives use forks or chopsticks to eat .

Was it because it was cheap?
