I am thinking of paying for a VPN. I have read about Zenamte. Is there any other VPN worth looking at.  Main purpose to enable me to watch UK TV while abroad and to provide Internet Security.

I found that Zenmate didnt work properly. When contacted, their support sent a standard email (uninstall, reboot, etc etc) but completely ignored my follow-up messages containing technical details they had asked for. They also completely ignored my two requests for a refund (so much for their 14-day money back guarantee) and in the end I had to get a chargeback on my credit card.

So I wouldn't cross the road to spit on them.

Thanks for the info. Does ironsocket provide a good service?  Will also checkout Browsec.

Zenmate works OK on the Browser (but Browsec works just as well on Chrome) and on Android phones and tablets.

Their Windows Dashboard used to work OK but is now a load of rubbish.

Like Kitten Kong I have sent numerous e-mails requesting Speed Tests etc., and I have had replies, but they basically blame my internet provider, which is nonsense.

I have also asked for a refund with no joy.

I'm quite happy with Ironsocket.

I added it to a router so that any device I connect to it is automatically VPN'ed if I want.

It would not work properly on my Android tablet.

Do you know if it can be added to any router. I have got a netgear router which is about 5 years old. Buying a new router wouldn't be a problem. Also does Ironsocket slow down at certain times or is it stable 24 X 7.

There is an overhead depending on what level of encryption you choose, but I've found it to be very consistent.

As for the router, you can just configure it to use the OpenVPN client that is built into the Router.

Are you running the latest firmware on your Router?

If so I would think it has a VPN option.

Chicog, Thanks for the advice .I will look into my old Router to see if I can use it. If I cant use my old Router, can you recommend a new Router to buy.

Well I have a Netgear R8000 Nighthawk, but whatever you buy, the faster the better, especially if you're planning on keeping it for five years.

If  you aren't particularly budget conscious, then there is now 802.11ad, which is twice the speed of 802.11ac within the confines of a 5m radius.

That would be enough to stream UHD from your PC to your TV I think!

I will check out the Netgear R8000. If I buy a  Netgear R8000 and pay for the Ironsocket VPN and connect my Android tablet and smart phone to the internet via wifi will both of these items be protected by the VPN Service.

Also if you have the Netgear R8000 and Ironsocket VPN, do you still have to bother with Anti Virus and Spyware programs.

You use the Ironsocket Website to generate an ovpn file for the particular server you want to use.

Then on the Netgear, you simply add in your login credentials to the OpenVPN client and upload the file.

Thereafter, *anything* that you connect to that router is using the VPN.

Because VPN is simply using a different route, yes you still need antimalware software.

I have been using Windscribe, VpnGhost and Hideme, all free and working good enough for what I need them.

Chicog Thanks for the link I will check it out. If my internet service is 50 Mbps. If I  use Ironsocket, on average what speed do you think I will have?

it depends if you're using it for Encryption (they have three levels) or just DNS proxy.

Have you done any experiments with the 3 different levels to see the difference in internet speeds.

Thanks but I need something more advanced than Zenmate. I want to set the VPN up on a router.
