Narathiwat expects Bt330 million baht generated from OTOP sales

Narathiwat Governor Karan Suphakitwilekakarn (การัณย์ ศุภกิจวิเลขการ) revealed that the province has many popular One Tambon One Product (OTOP) products such as miniature Kolae boats (เรือกอและ), Batic clothes, Muslim robes, golden leaves, Krajood (กระจูด) basketry, as well as tropical fruits such as Sala Indo (สละอินโด), and Longkong (ลองกอง).

A report on provincial OTOP conducted by the provincial commerce department shows that OTOP sales have increased every year. In the year 2004, OTOP sales in Narathiwat had reached 160 million baht, 227 million baht in 2005, and 315 million baht in 2006. The most popular product was clothes, followed by food, and ornaments.

The governor added that in the fiscal year 2007, the province has projected the OTOP sales of 330 million baht. This year’s sales are expected to exceed those in ther previous years as the number of OTOP entrepreneurs and the types of products have increased significantly.

The province will also support and promote the entrepreneurs to distribute their products to other provinces.

Some OTOP products can only be found in the province such as the golden leaves, the miniature Kolae boats which represent local fishermen’s way of life, and the hand-made Batik clothes.
