I have both a desktop and laptop with Windows 10. On my laptop, the big box at the lower left hand side of the screen, jumps out

from time to time when I am ie, watching a movie. It goes away again when I click on the screen. I took it to the local engineer, and he cannot fix it, I even asked him if he could

put it back to Windows 8.1. he said he cannot. There is no problem with my desktop.

Anyone else had this problem, or am I just unlucky?

I doubt this is a W10 issue. The most likely culprit is the touchpad (or touchscreen if it has one).

If it is the touchpad causing false inputs then you could check whether it happens when on battery as well as plugged in to AC power. Generic replacement chargers can play havoc with touchpads.

Or it can be that the touchpad needs cleaning around the edges. You can use alcohol to do that.

To check whether the touchpad (or a touchscreen) are causing the issue, you can disable them in device manager and see whether the issue goes away.

I have done what you said, that is not the problem, any other ideas?

I assume when you say the big box on the lower left side you mean the Windows Start menu. Or do you mean Cortana which is just to the right hand side of that?

If it's Cortana, you can completely disable that.

If it is the Start Menu, then perhaps the keyboard has an issue. Specifically the Windows Key.  You could try disabling the keyboard in Device Manager. You may need a USB keyboard to use the notebook while diagnosing the problem.

I will now just have to accept that this problem cannot be fixed, the laptop is only just over a year old, and when I use it, I am

just going to have to keep pressing the Windows key every time the start menu keeps jumping out. it is a b------d. But thanks

to all for trying to help.

This started for me when updated to the Anniversary issue,

I too dont like it and have not found a way to stop it, if you

click the 3 little lines at the top of the start menu, the thumbnails

go away, only leaving your start menu, but its not permanent.

also noticed when updating,it wiped out all my restore points.

This just happened to me without reason, nothing had changed, a computer is a computer so that's that.

If I try your method regarding the three little lines, can I keep doing it when the box starts jumping out again?
