Tourists told that Thailand open as usual - but expect some disruption to events and entertainment

BANGKOK: -- Potential tourists to Thailand have been informed that Thailand is open as usual, but the situation is far from usual.

 

From CNN to directives and advice from foreign governments tourists have been told to watch and adjust their behavior as Thais grieve the passing of their beloved King.

 

Sanook.com reported that though most entertainment venues were opening as normal there are restrictions on activities and foreigners coming into the country are being told what these are, reports Sanook.

 

For example there are no restrictions on what people can wear on the beach but beach parties are cancelled. Hotels in Samui and Phuket said that understanding of tourists was good in accepting the need for modifications in activities.

 

Alcohol sales at department stores and convenience stores are expected to return to normal hours from today.

 

Bars and nightclubs continue to operate with the onus generally put on owners to self regulate. Music may be turned down and activities outside kept to a minimum.

 

Though sanook.com mentioned that some events have been scrapped such as the sold out Morrissey concert and the Scorpions 50th Anniversary World tour leg in Thailand.

 

CNN talking to a foreign blogger commented that while restaurants, department stores and tourist sites were open as normal there were restrictions on certain activities.

Loy Kratong, you mean tourists come to Thailand to drop a Styrofoam float with some banana leafs into the water?

Family holiday makers will benefit because they do not mingle in the nigh life...

I have a 6 pax group to Sukothai!

They are not coming FOR that, but they included it, once they traveled during this period!

Loy Krathong is NOT affected and will continue in all provinces. If anything, it will probably bring more people out than normal. But don't count on fireworks and music.

Do you even get out. There are many events in thailand on weekly basis. I had friends coming for bang saen speed festival. Loy kratong. Others come for pattata music festival and countdown. All events cancelled. Even football match cup qualifier between AU and Thai moved to another country.Dont Get mev wrong. We all respect that thai people are in grief. But to make out its a minor thing for visitors and expats is bit of a joke

Initially it was cancelled in Chiang Mai, but that decision has since been reversed, fortunately, but you're right, no fireworks etc.

The light and candle show has been cancelled, not the event itself, you can still attend to celebrate in the traditional fashion.  Not such a bad idea actually.

Yes Thailand is open to everything except what is ordered closed. Which, under the circumstances, is fair enough.

Not all back to normal. A few days ago you said TV  and radio channels would return to normal with some impossible conditions. Speaking to True Vision today I was told that this would not be until the 15 November. Why did you not issue an update? My friends luckily have either satellite, cable or internet which apparently have not been affected at all. A good reason to get rid of True

Exact point is it not that minor, example being Loy Kratong bigger attraction than most realise and added to tourist brochures for November period, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai having hugely busy periods due to it, let alone all other events effected ...

I happen to have over the years planned my trips to include the Loy Kratong time frame, partly because the rainy season has typically ended but partly because some of the cities I have visited put on a fine little show (Sukhothai, Pattaya with the lanterns)

At 2000 a hit on VISA on arrival of course there going to say business as normal. They should also issue visitors a fine at the airport for boarding the plain lol. They really have no idea how to return smiling faces.

true is the biggest ripoff for falongs! there is not enough space here to run down all the channels, But 90% are for thai's and less than 10& for falangs, the thai's can purchase seperate packages for programs but falangs have to have at least a god package to see english programs.if there were ANY competition up here in Isan they would go broke!
