Looking at hotels online, they all advertise in US dollars.  It's been a little while since I've been to Burma.  Do the hotels expect payment in US dollars?  Can you pay in Kyat?  What's cheaper?

Most burma 2 star hotels and up will take $$ and Kyat,  especially in the main tourist areas but out in the sticks u will only pay in Kyat,

IN my past 4 trips have only paid hotel in 2 places in $$  everywhere else was Kyat

Hotels will give u a lousy  exchange rate

I'm a bit confused by your reply.  You say they accept dollars, but also except kyat at a worse exchange rate.  So it sounds like if the price is quoted in dollars, the dollar prices would be cheaper than by paying in kyat.

If the room total is $120, and I pay with 2 one hundred dollar bills, what do they give to me as change?

Should I always ask the price in kyat if they quote me a price in dollars?

Thank you

Just wanted to report my experience.  As a tourist, I stayed in tourist areas and the hotels were paid in US dollars and change was given in dollars.  You could pay in kyat if you wanted, but they just converted the dollars to kyat.

The rooms are priced in US dollars.  You do not get any break for paying in kyat.

From my experience, no discount!  (But it could depend on what currency you are working with, exchange rate)

But only stayed in two hotels...so can't speak for others...  I had to show one hotel how to use the visa card machine!
