PHUKET:-- More than 150 officers gathered at the Tha Chatchai checkpoint today (Oct 27) as it was announced that a major anti-drug and crime campaign would be carried out across the island until Monday (Oct 30).

Deputy Commander of the Region 8 Police Lt Gen Chalit Thinthanee and Thalang Police Chief Col Sompong Thiparpakul were both present when the announcement was made at 4pm today, and more than 150 police officers from Thalang, Sakoo and Tha Chatchai police station were in attendance.

Lt Gen Chalit said, “I am pleased to preside over this ceremony and announce a campaign aimed at ridding the island of drugs and crime. Along with local police officers, officials from local administration offices will also be helping out during this campaign.

“It is now close to high season so many people will be visiting the island and there will be many activities lined up for this period so high security is a must.

A three day campaign. Only a coupe of days left to keep the drug dealers shut down then back to normal business on 31st October.  Can't have the envelope cashflow stopping for any longer than a few days while they pretend they are men of action. The undisguised pretence of the RTP to be seen to be doing something defies description.

cut it down to just the preferred dealers ?

Is the Thalang Police Chief (left in the photo) looking at a very tall reporter in the press pool?

Yes, a 3 day "anti-crime and drug campaign" should suffice for a 6 month high season.

More Thai smoke and mirrors, and BS press releases.

Of course not, but, I would suggest, the general public are sick of the lies and deceit that there really is  an "anti-crime and drug campaign" happening, when what is actually happening, is nothing more than a story for the media, and forewarning the criminals for those particular 3 days.

Meanwhile, certainly, more and more crime is being reported in the news here.

Lt Gen Chalit said, “I am pleased to preside over this ceremony.

Why the need for a ceremony and a photo session before just getting off thier butts and simply doing what they are paid for.

"keep up the country’s good tourism image,” he said.

The guy to the left seams to struggle  keeping a strait face listen to this.

But who wouldn't , I was laughing just reading it

Photo ops are very important here, I think you could spend your entire career in law enforcement in America without ever being in a picture even in the local news. But then you would be in your squad car 8 hours a day and pulling people over for violations, and thats no fun.

The real purpose is to catch foreign tour operators.  If they can collect some extra pocket money by drugs magically appearing in vehicles, all the better.
