If you would like to join in and show respect for the Kings passing, and maybe don't have black clothing, I found today some nice free black ribbon pins at my local Starbucks. I imagine they're available at all branches and are a nice way to show respect for the King's passing.

Even if not free, they are being sold pretty much everywhere for 5 baht. Everyone can afford that. They also have given them out free at many schools to teachers who do not already have them.

Good to know...I hadn't seen them before...and not everyone is a teacher or has kids in school ?

They have been being passed for free out at various shops and locations in and around Pattaya since several days after his Majesty's passing.  It is a very nice and respectful gesture to ware one during this period of mourning.

They even used a blunt pair of scissors to cut them from the roll. What a shame.

But there's so much for sale now, i liked the rubber black bracelets with text. Also i've seen shirts with the black ribbon printed on it like a brandname, buttons with kings portrait, shirts with a print i can't read but has to do with mourning.

I only wear black polo's or blouses and many times i hear the thai speaking about that. Falang dum blahblahblah. Do you guys also get reactions?

Basically every shop, bank or institution I have visited recently has a small basket of those ribbons where you can grab one for free or a small donation. All I can say is it is VERY much appreciated by Thai people if you attach one to your shirt, even the rowdy motocy-batch at my SOI (and they are not Fans of myself as I prefer to walk in most of the cases and rarely use their services) had positive comments for me when I walked past them

I've yet to see them on offer anywhere in Pattaya.

If you wear it make sure to do this the right way. First time I didn't and was politely corrected by a colleague:
Right places: Left sleeve just below the shoulder or upper-left of the shirt, could be the pocket (so it's above the heart).

Alignment: The loop should be up and the legs down.

Foreigner will be cut some slack surely by Thais but still a wrongly worn ribbon might be construed an insult.
