PHUKET:-- Officials at Phuket International Airport today (Nov 8) confirmed they are now operating a shuttle bus service from the facility’s car park in front of the new International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal.

Officials confirmed that the shuttle bus service will transport travellers from the car park to the Domestic Terminal while Phase 1 of the domestic terminal renovation is in progress.

An airport representative who declined to be named said, “People who park their cars in the car park can get to the Domestic Terminal by taking the shuttle bus that we provide. The bus leaves every five minutes all day long. They start running when the first flight arrives and the last bus will be after the last flight lands,” he said.

The representative advised against travellers walking between the two terminals. “They can but it is not recommended, it is better to take the shuttle bus provided,” he said.

In response to reports that taxi drivers will not take passengers from one terminal to the other, the representative told The Phuket News, “We have no knowledge of this, but most taxi drivers should know where they need to drop off their passengers.”

The representative was also asked whether it was correct that some regular flights are being moved to the X-Terminal, he said that is not correct.

This is presumably for the benefit of international passengers who will be taking an onward domestic flight with either Air Asia or Nok Air after clearing immigration. That implies that they'll have to take their luggage from the international terminal to the domestic one as well. So are the shuttle buses big enough to transport both passengers and luggage?

I hope the vehicles aren't the same type as they use on the free shuttle between DMK and BKK. Passengers have to load their luggage into the seating area on those buses which is no joke when you have to lug a 23kg case up two or three steps in addition to your hand luggage and then find a seat somewhere.

I always took the shuttle bus from the multi floor car park to the old (now domestic) terminal. Why is this news ?

Because it stopped running from the regular spot at the car park last week when they closed the old terminal. It now runs from the other side of the parking in front of the international terminal. I walked it last week as there was no shuttle in the usual spot & was a bit of a hike over rubble & negotiating through the fence to get to Terminal 2.
