Take highway 340 Bkk to Chainat.

  • I didn't take this in Thailand, but it is certainly abandoned-building related, and I started this thread so hopefully that gives me some flexibility ???? . I just returned to Bangkok from a few weeks

Next time you're in Pattaya, have a poke around our derelict resorts, we've got a few in Pattaya.

This resort has been derelict since the late 1990's when I came across it.

Whenever I travel past this structure, I can see a few Thai squatters in the lobby.

Don't know the name, just that it never opened and was demolished a few years back. This is my series from the location https://www.daxward.com/Abandoned-thai-mountain-resort/

The december tourists of Koh Samui are in for a big surprise this year ????????. It was  interesting to look  because most popular tourist places look like koh samui now.

What a fantastic thread! Special thanks to diznax and helbob for some jaw-dropping images. Never have I given out so many likes. After one spends a certain amount of time here, standard folk (like me) typically become blind to these places, sort of like ads on a webpage... my moobaan in CM was right opposite one, for instance; a 1997 jobby. Was always curious but never ventured in there. Massive place. Perhaps I'll take a look next time I'm nearby and post here.

Looking for some input from anyone who knows about Buddha statues. I saw this one at an abandoned temple the other day, first I've ever seen a Buddha with hands covering face. I'm very curious as to the meaning. Any ideas? It resembles the 'see no evil' depicted in the popular Japanese 'three wise monkeys' statues, but I think it's very unusual to see this depiction in a Buddha statue...or maybe not, but I've certainly never seen it before. Cheers

Maybe this one? It is in the mountains (stepy dirt road) of Samui.

I sometimes watch videos made by people who explore abandoned houses and mansions, and it's amazing what gets left behind. Beds made, dishes in the sink to wash, even expensive cars or tvs etc. It appears as if some had to suddenly 'do a runner', and I guess others died with no family to clear up or take over the property.

If someone died alone in the house it is likely the Thai culture of ghosts becomes the rule.

No chance of the average Thai going within 100 metres.

Dying within a extended family home is OK.

Hands over the eyes symbolizes a blocking out of the outside world during intense Sammabart meditation. This is jhana level meditation which can also cross-over into Abhinna.

Wow, there appears to be so much "recoverable" stuff in this place, it's a wonder it hasn't been stripped bare by now??

If not the above, then surely could be a "home" to the poor and needy/homeless??

@xylophone Something is been stripped.

The wooden house in the garden looks nice  but some of the wood has rotted through.

Around the office are a few real rooms, the other buildings are open halls.

I spotted this compound cycling in the area in july. Looked big, the park looked maintained and maybe 20 houses identical, which apparently have been inhabited (tv antennas) and abandoned. Looked modern and recent but already naturally decayed. I think the drives along the canals are accessible with motorbike. Not sure about how to get in the compound. Should be interesting to know what happened.
