Outrage and fear fuel continuing anti-Trump protests

OK, that one has been disproved although it is interesting don't you think that the majority of those protesters (had to come from somewhere) never registered to vote?

Moving the goal posts much?

And as you say trust & verify - anything concrete to support the new claim?

They did not campaign to win the popular vote, and if they had the campaigns would have been run differently, so we will never know what the result would have been.

However, as things stand, the popular vote numbers are so close, you would be spending the next 4 years recounting it.

And, about half of Americans are really happy about the election results. Guess what- they won.

I'm sure Canada in winter is a great place for those that really can't live with Trump as POTUS

Quite a few voters, to judge from posts on this forum, voted for either candidate not because they were thrilled with the choice, but simply because they disliked or disapproved of  the other candidate. Seems that for some it was done grudgingly, Wouldn't know that the "happy" assertion is based on anything but your imagination. That's without even considering those who didn't vote. The above is a good example of something that sounds correct, but isn't.

Perhaps you should do some research before believing such .......................

The electoral college was set up precisely to counter the popular vote. The clever men could see a day when the loony lefties that inhabit the cities would outnumber ALL the citizens in the rest of the country, and be able to vote in presidents that supported their agenda. They took sensible precautions to prevent such.

Anyway, it can't be changed without amending the constitution, and the rest of the country will not allow that.

The constitution was drafted in 1787 I believe, and signed in Philidelphia in September of that year?

The US industrial revolution , which led to the dramatic expansion of the cities, the rapid expansion of the West and new states, and the huge (immigrant led) increase in population didn't really begin until the second decade of the following century. That the drafters of the constitution  were clever men I do not doubt, they were probably amongst, some of the greatest liberal (unfortunate connotations today but not then) thinkers of the time; influenced by liberal progressives throughout time, going back to the ancient Greek  republics. I don't imagine that they foresaw a day whenext "loony lefties" in cities would "outnumber" the rest of the country .  And if they did, well those "loony lefties" outnumber the rest (your own words) and so they are a majority, something which the drafters would have recognised.

What you are effectively doing is using the electoral college to justify something it was never set up to do. The elephant in the room remains the simple fact that the President Elect received significantly fewer votes (more than a million) than his main rival. That is a huge anomaly which needs addressing, and you cannot hide it behind the electoral college .

The implications of ignoring it mean that the next time the US comments on democracy or its rebuttal anywhere in the world ,  it can and will be pointed out that their President got a million less votes than his rival. Sad.

You and your buddies clearly seem to make up things to fit your Alt-right propaganda. All protesters are fake and/or paid?! All protesters never registered?! Can you share with us some proof of this BS?

One must be really narrow-minded if one cannot comprehend that about half of the Americans are really upset about the election results.

What you ignore is that the US is not just the cities. To elect the president simply by a majority is to make the heartland of America subject to the tyranny of one side probably forever, and that would surely lead to civil war.

The founding fathers no doubt foresaw such an eventuality and acted to prevent it.

Right....in the late 1780s the electoral college was introduced by the clever men (the alt-right i assume) to prevent all these loony lefties who lived in the cities to outvote the rest of the country. hahahaha

You really need to buy a vowel

Your trying to squeeze a truly great concept into your quart jar intellect to twist into a lefty wit fails

That you cannot comprehend the greatness of these founding fathers concept

does not in anyway diminish it.

There''s a new term coined for what idiocy we're seeing re these lunatic protests and general despondency.

To wit:

Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (TARD)

AAATARDERS.jpg

People with Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder [TARD] are characterized by a persistent unwillingness to accept that Donald Trump is going to Make America Great Again.

Hmm, and if the refusal to allow the majority to select the President becomes the norm,  that won't have the same effect ?

Has a ring to it I must admit

Sadly if they are cured and then have a relapse....I'm afraid they then become

RE-TARDS.....which would be redundant

Wasn’t it your alt-right buddy who was trying to be witty when he suggested that the founding fathers considered the future loony lefties when they thought about the electoral college?

The Trump supporters are defending the electoral college now, had Trump not won it, they would have pissed on it. RIGGED SYSTEM!!!! Therefore the arrogance of claiming it, I find astonishing. The stupidity to simply assume that anyone who didn’t vote for Trump isn’t in favor of the electoral college proofs the said arrogance of the Trump supporters.

The outrage is real.

The fear well founded in reality.

Violence against all kinds of minorities PREDICTABLY has spiked after the election, rationalized by ultra nationalistic trumpist slogans.

You can't run such a dirty campaign of hate without their being a price to pay later.

The rise of the trumpists along with their alt-right racist and various hatreds baggage is indeed the beginning of an incredibly dark and divisive era in the USA.

Quote

Mr. Trump promised in his victory speech to be a president for all Americans. His wife has said she wants to make fighting hate and bullying her main priority as first lady. They need not wait until Inauguration Day to start living up to those promises.

I appreciate what the Washpo article has to say, but honestly, I don't really believe that trump, considering what he and the kind of DISGUSTING campaign he ran (historically so), is really even capable of reigning in his far right wing violent goons.

note the wit...

Just imagine, smoke weed all day, drink some beer, shout some anti-trump slur (there's plenty of that),  maybe even throw a few molotov cocktails here and there, while receiving 6000USD per month. Thats a dream job man!

Sounds like a nightmare to me. Imagine it, you do your job well, and the result would be that you have ended democracy. In its place you(and your fellow paid protesters) would have installed a system whereby the biggest crybabies chose the government. And you call this a dream job?!

At the end of the day, democratic elections are a decent enough system. The problem this time round was simply that special interest groups got way too big for their boots, and what has become a pathetic education system did not/would not/could not prepare the youth for democratic change. A simple failure, and one that Trump can remedy. Huge overhaul of mainstream media and the education system will occur.

Outrage and fear of democratic process is acutely embarrasing, and to be frank, a bit of a shock, unless we are talking about North Korea where it could be expected.

It was a reaction to the craiglist BS alt-right propaganda! And you can claim to be the biggest conservative around, but I sincerely doubt that you wouldnt want 6000USD/month for doing nothing.....

How is protesting ending democracy? I would say if you cant protest there is no democracy. And the biggest cry-baby won the election so you're correct on that! Which special interest groups do you mean got too big for their boots? You mean the KKK and such?

Of course Trump can remedy anything, the 1 million dollar question is of course will he? I applaud Trump for his socialist ideals on many occasions in this forum, but I am very skeptical that he will actually  fulfill his promised to bring back jobs the working man, or financial support to the (ex)students with their astronomical student debts. If he wont fulfill these promises, we can expect a long future of protests in the street, and rightfully so, because that would mean the president was chosen based on lies. Now that WILL destroy democracy!

It hasn't since they have been having elections in the USA. Why would that change?

If people don't like it, change the constitution, and good luck with that 5555555555555.

Who is saying protest is bad? It's the rioting and the destruction and the assaulting people that offends most.

Well that's going to be a problem for me I guess; that is if I cared about such trivial things. I buy the New Balance sneakers that are made in the USA because the quality is so much better than other shoes one might buy.

True.....but of course I will still buy those regardless if some group likes them or not...for the same reasons. They are very well made.

If the lefties want to now start proclaiming Made In America is a bad thing because a  bad rep group likes them...well...I guess their beds will soon all be  without sheets

555  Because we know how that other groups like sheets but we never know what brand
