DNS Ads

Featured Replies

Today I have started to get ads popping up and seemingly random tabs opening. I first noticed this when coming to ThaiVisa from the newsletter links.

Did a scan of the system and restarted and everything was ok again.

Now I have come back to ThaiVisa via the newsletter links and it is back again. Websites that were previously unaffected now have all these annoying pop-ups. So it definitely seems to be originating from ThaiVisa.

Is ThaiVisa infected?

What is a DNS ad? Can you post a screenshot?

I can't because I have got rid of it.

It seems to convert a number of words in a post to links and as your cursor passes over it, pop ups appear. Also new tabs with adverts open.

I haven't installed anything on my computer recently so I don't know where it may have come from. I just noticed that after I got rid of it, it only re-appeared when I followed the links from TV newsletter.

Thank you for the additional information, Loong.

I was interested in a screenshot to see whether it would allow me to figure out if it is an ad served by Google AdSense. Google has strict rules for advertisers and as far as I remember they don't allow ads that open a pop-up or a new page just when the mouse cursor passes over it.

Thaivisa uses several ad servers but it would surprise me if any of them allowed this type of ad, but occasionally one may slip through and if this happens it is a good idea to report it to the ad server in question.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I am also subscribed to the daily newsletter and tried to reproduce your problem but could not.

Two things seem strange:

1. You get it only when clicking on a link in the Thaivisa newsletter.

2. No other member has reported experiencing the same problem.

When it happens to you again, please post the date of the newsletter and the link that caused it so that I and others can try to reproduce it and hopefully get a better understanding of it, which may then lead to a solution.

Correction: reading your first post again I see that that you now have the problem also on other websites. Just the same, let's see if somebody can help you if on a future occurrence of the problem you post a screenshot and the newsletter date and link.
