BANGKOK: -- The 30 year old son of a former Pheu Thai MP from Petchabun fell to his death from the 18th floor of a Sathorn condominium in Bangkok yesterday morning.

His death came as a great surprise to his girlfriend who had been with him in his flat watching a movie just hours before.

Kosaphong Chawalasanti - better known as Bird - was a government official in the north eastern province. His tenure was up last year but he was kept on by order of the military junta, reports Thairath.

He was the son of Narongkorn Chawalasanti who represented Petchabun.

Thung Mahamek police found his body on the ground floor after being alerted by a security guard who heard a loud noise at 5.48am.

The victim was dressed in jeans and a short sleeved shirt and had no shoes or ID. He had multiple injuries and broken bones as well as a cut on the left side of his chest.

Bird's girlfriend Orasa said they had been out in Ekamai and when they got home at 2.48am they turned on a Korean movie and fell asleep some time after.

She woke at 5.50 and finding him not in bed she search around the flat and called out. When she looked over the balcony she saw he had fallen.

Orasa said he was a healthy man with no diseases. "He was a quiet man." she said, "And he never spoke of any worries. I have no idea of why he might do this".

Police believe he fell but will be interviewing relatives, studying CCTV and waiting for the autopsy from Chulalongkorn Hospital before coming to any conclusions.

Check for drugs in his blood...

I imagine that is one of the things on the 'to do' list of the people performing the autopsy.

My sincere condolences to his Parents, Family, Girl-Friend & Friends.

May Khun Kosaphong Rest In Peace.

I can related to what his parents are now going through, since I lost my beautiful 29 year young daughter

in a very similar accident 3 weeks ago, when she fell over the balcony railing of a Melbourne apartment and

fell 10 meters onto a concrete car-park floor.

It's always sad when anyone dies.

Are people learning nothing from these balcony falls? Maybe time to implement new safety measures. Sure, if someone wants to kill themselves that can't be stopped, but we can at least 'try' to reduce the number of accidental deaths.

The time given for each event in the article is very precise. It should read, I left him watching tv at about 3am and I heard a loud band at about 6am. Hmm, suspious police report, imo.

Possible that cctv was checked and determined what time they returned home and when the guard went outside.

What is it with the balconies here? these kind of stories are far too frequent to all be accidents.

Sorry for the loss of life. May he rests in peace.

Jaapfries, I am so sorry to hear of your terrible loss and I hope that your daughter is now resting in peace.  I know how I felt when I lost my wife through illness, but at least I had some warning of what was going to happen.  Your loss was so sudden and I feel for you.

What is the height of the balcony railing in Thailand condominium? I am 5 feet 7 inches(170 cm) the railing in Malaysia comes up to my navel(belly button) so it is quite high and you wouldn't fall over unless you climb over the rail. This is the standard height in Malaysia and Singapore. You don't hear much of people falling from Condo or apartment here. If they do fall it wouldn't be accident, it would very likely be suicide.

I believe the low level  of the railing plus being pushed over is the reason of so many fall from balcony in Thailand. The low level of the railing in Thailand makes it easy to do the pushing.

I read so many cases of people saying, "I was sleeping when I woke up I couldn't find my partner". Of course you couldn't find your partner.
