Taiwanese tourist drowns in Pattaya hotel's swimming pool

Pattaya - A Taiwanese woman drowned in a swimming pool of a hotel in this seaside tourist town Monday morning, police said.

The tourist was identified as Sun Su-E, 55.

She was spotted floating with face down on the swimming pool of Phu Phaya Resort Hotel on Southern Pattaya Road in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district.

Atthawichai Wipoppat, 35, Bellboy chief, told police that he saw the woman swimming alone in the pool and an hour later he spotted her floating.

He jumped down to pull her out of water but found that she had died.

Charnchai Saethang,36, a tour guide, said the woman checked into the hotel with ten Taiwanese tourists three days ago.

Charnchai said the woman stayed behind at the hotel alone when he took the other Taiwanese tourists to tour Pattaya Walking Street.

Chinese Tourist drowns in South Pattaya Hotel Swimming Pool

Police Sub-Lieutenant Aniwat from Pattaya Police station along with Police Captain Punlop from Pattaya’s Tourist Police Station attended the Phupaya Resort located in Soi 17, South Pattaya after Hotel Staff reported the discovery of a Hotel Guest floating face-down in the Hotel’s Swimming Pool.

The body of Miss Sun Su-E aged 55, originally born in Taiwan but holding a Chinese Passport was recovered from the water.

The body showed no sign of trauma and Khun Suriyar, a member of Hotel Staff mentioned that the woman was part of a tour group and had apparently decided to go for a late night swim alone.

Her exact cause of death is, as yet, unknown but Police believe she suffered cramping or possibly an acute medical ailment which caused her to drown.

Police are awaiting the results of the autopsy before they close the case. The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok has been informed.
