Yeah, I never went there myself but I heard the food and service was crap...

Personally I think a decent farang restaurant would work if the food was good as there's a fair amount of expats about in Phetchabun nowadays.

The OP is unlikely to find scooter rental in Phetchabun. Most of the tourists here are Thai and have their own wheels.

Might be better to rent one in Bangkok and take it to Phetchabun.

There is a current obsession among Bangkokians to go and see the sea of clouds at Phu Tab Berk

It used to be a beautiful place years ago, now it has begun to look like Pattaya. Just as well that the current government are busy demolishing illegal resorts.

If the Malaysian OP needs a bike for business in the area....fine. But if it is to go to any of the local highland resorts....forget it. Total rip off.

As for the London cafe ......doomed to failure from the start. Not enough local Thai people who want to sample English food. Expats in the area mostly eat at home ...as you would expect.

There's a place near SR hotel that does good farang food, it's always got local Thais in it sampling the food, it's very popular and very good. Soodyot (sp) is the name of it.

Any restaurant is doomed if the foods crap.

That's true. Also, sometimes the food might be ok but the prices way over the top for the local market. There is a very good restaurant in Wichien Buri ( south of Phetchabun town ) . Name of the place is Gaysorn opposite the post office. Here they offer both Thai, western and Japanese food at prices enough to attract local people looking for good food in a nice atmosphere at very reasonable prices. Owners worked for many years in 5 star hotels in Hua Hin.

I could not honestly say that the western food is the absolute best you can find but nonetheless it is good and exceedingly good value. Fish and chips only 70 baht. Noodle dishes 35-40 baht. Water is free and given in a nice iced carafe .

I was recently back in the U.K. and had fish and chips three times in various places ( Witherspoons etc) and although the portions were massively larger the taste was not as good as Gaysorn !! Unskinned fish and too much batter killing the taste of the fish.
