cheapest phone tariff, network in thailand ?

Featured Replies

one2call is proving expensive, i put 200 baht into my phone 3 days ago and its finished,  i need only internet mostly as i make most calls via whatsap/line/facebook.

im only here for 4 weeks this time so dont want locked into contract

I was losing money in 1_2 call and then noticed my "mobile data" had been opened. It's happened a few times. I'm constantly checking it now.

When you don't buy a specific data package you pay per mbyte and that will keep draining your credit. So best guesstimate how much data you use and go to a AIS shop or counter and buy a package for 1 month. Switching to another provider won't change much. It's really a matter of buying the right package they are quite evenly priced throughout companies I personally use TRUE but I don't think they are necessarily better/cheaper it just works out for me.

Correct.

399+tax gets 3gb valid for 30 days with AIS

AIS has a package called Mao Mao, it's 199 bt plus tax approx 220 total. This gives you 1 GB data for 30 days, but they don't cut you off after the 1 GB limit, the speed goes down, that's all, and it's still acceptable. Separately, buy talk time for 50 bt or so for emergencies.

Described here with two other monthly packages.

Throttled speed after volume used up is 384 kBit/s.

Checking the package status after booking:

*121*32#

Doesn't it get you a fixed amount like 3GB at fast speed and then the speed drops and it becomes 'unlimited' at the slower data rate? I must admit I feel I am spending too much on my AIS 1-2 Call account, and can't seem to find a plan that suits me. Choice in the UK was much more suitable, in Thailand there always seems to be some item not included that adds to the bill,

Without a subscribed data plan I think the OP is being charged 1 baht/min while his phone is accessing the mobile data network, and 200 baht would be used up in a little over 3 hours.

You can toggle mobile data on/off within the device, or with the AIS network. *121*1# turn off, *121*2# turn on.

So it may be best to subscribe to a one-time, or recurring mobile data plan. AIS/One-2-Call do have some impressive one-time plans: Max Speed Internet. So you could string two, one-time 15-day plans to cover your four week visit?

Or just get a 30 day recurring plan, but don't leave enough balance to get dinged for a 2nd month.

All prices are exclusive of 7% VAT.

I use Dtac. 3GB 399 baht. It is limitless, and simply decreases in speed after hitting 3GB.

What you want is prepaid. There is no contract. Many different data limits available.

Yes it does, you can get an extra 3gb on top if the speed is too slow. And it also gives you unlimited AIS wifi if you are in the coverage area (mostly shopping centres)

the cheaper packages mostly don't have the free wifi.

My current plan has some free SMS (use a few) and MMS (which I never use), 1 GB for 7 days and free minutes BUT I can get charged for calls in peak times. My previous tariff did not include any SMS and the few I used were expensive. Never really use the Free Wi-FI. Not one for sitting in shopping malls playing with my phone,

For once the UK is cheaper, about £15/ month for 3GB of data and a silly huge number of minutes and texts to all networks which I could never use up.

Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten
