I want to transfer my PHOTOS from my Macbook Pro to my i Mac, using a Thunderbolt Cable.

As the photos below show I am using Migration Assistant and have set up Macbook Pro to transfer and iMac to to receive.

Yet after 10 mins they do not recognise each other.

Any ideas?

I have also tried using the 'Target Disk Mode' method and have watched You Tube vids on both methods.

Yet No Go.

I feel that I am doing something BASIC wrong.

Both machines run OS X El Captain 10.11.6

On Macbook Pro, go to Sharing in System Preferences and select File Sharing.

On iMac, open Finder and select Connect to Server, under the Go menu.  You should be able to see your Macbook Pro folders.  Copy/paste files from Macbook Pro to iMac.

I tried airdrop as you recommended and connected both computers by  Bluetooth BUT they both kept disconnecting after a few seconds and drove me daft.

I will do a second post to answer on Sharing as I will soon run out of 'Photo' space.

Thank you.

John

Thanks for your advice but the files on my Macbook Pro do not show up.

I am now reverting to the old 'Steam/Stone Age' method of transfer to external Hard Drive then a second transfer from External Hard drive to i Mac.

Very long process and I will check out here to see if anyone can spot MY MISTAKE .

Air drop does not need blue tooth, I think however both need to be connected to wifi

I only have limited knowledge so I could be wrong, (imagine a Thai saying this they never admit they do not know ! ! ! )

When you are in finder highlight air drop, it is shown earlier on this thread

You shared files on the wrong machine, according to your pics above.  If your files are on the MacBook, you need to share files on the MacBook...not the iMac.
