Naam might punch out one-liners, but they are useful one -liners..

A typical example would be someone posting that their 25 year old split system air conditioner has stopped running efficiently.

Whilst there will be the typical heated argument between members about the entropy of superheated freon, Naam will just say " It's stuffed".

Why take two pages to say what can be said in two words?

This is true but one has lived in Thailand for decades, so has a lot of practical experience and genuinely loves the country and the people, while the other lives in Pattaya and refuses to learn the Thai language(after a decade) and doesn't want to associate with the local inferior people.

correction! i don't want to associate with any inferior people and i am not very interested to associate with any non-inferior people except old friends. since i retired at a rather "young" age i, actually we, are living a rather reclusive but extremely busy and fulfilled life. nobody is entitled to tell us what people we have to love, what languages we should learn or what food we should eat.

Well, what a nice, kind response.  Right up there with VF calling me learning disabled for when I asked when voting for this round of the contest ends.

FYI, I am a year round poster on TV, just not in the subforums where you hangout.  There's nothing the matter in campaigning in your hometown forum -- the Chiang Mai forum, where you slip in from time-to-time despite knowing little about Chiang Mai.  If you check out the health and visa forums, you'll see that I'm active year round.  I see Thai Visa as a forum for helping fellow expats, not a place to show off our karaoke skills.  That's what Facebook is for!

Incidentally, I was a gracious loser to JT in 2014 (what a nasty contest) and appreciated his support last year.

I find it interesting that this year's two top runners have both insulted me.  What's to be gained in that?

We have long memories perhaps....

I take your point but this is a Thai forum, not an engineering or investment forum.

I believe the POTY is for the whole forum, not just one's knowledge of one sub-forum.

.....and it's not, with all due respect to VF who I read on a regular basis, a Northern Thailand, bike riding, picture taking, pet owning forum either.

And one has world class financial investment experience plus a wealth of engineering knowledge whilst the other appears to not have those things, so what! Two different people, both with something useful and interesting to offer, just because YOU prefer one over the other is no reason to try and degrade the other and force your opinions on others.

add to that that Villagefarang enjoys my highest respect and admiration. but as you said, two totally different people.

Let the voters decide!

Of course, but that only works fairly when you reduce or eliminate the bias that some individuals actively and regularly express, Transam will confirm this to be true following last years debacle at the hands of the mouth.

To be fair to Naam, for any perceived shortcomings one may think he has, he does have more practical advice to dish out, as #chiang mai has pointed out.  My decades of experience make it possible for me to have a wonderful life here in Thailand but are of no practical use to newbies looking for specific answers to technical questions.

If anyone believes that they are so gullible. We have all read your posts regarding anyone who "goes native" as you say or learns the local language.

While I appreciate your support, I do feel you are off-base with your putdowns of Naam.  He has never been anything but respectful when commenting on my posts.  We have found different ways of adapting to our lives in Thailand and they both seem to work for us.

An incredible stupid thing to imply and massively out of order.

nah... you have to make concessions looking at his background. arriving in Thailand 31 years ago with a thousand pounds saving, blowing it within a week and then find a job teaching English and working hard to this very day. all said, nothing to be added. :whistling:

What's wrong with working hard?

Whether it's on ThaiVisa or running a USA-based NGO, some like what I have to say and some don't. Regarding the NGO, some of the persons I interact with have won MacArthur Fellowships either as individuals or through the NGO's they run.

Go figure -- it's a wonder some of these persons would even give me the time of day.

Hubby has taken me away from Thailand for a few weeks for a holiday of his own design -- big mistake that I blindly got on an airplane without inquiring about the itinerary.  Turns out it consists of visiting Rotary clubs in Borneo and helping them with their "projects" in local villages while staying in places that have dial-up internet.  Yesterday, I painfully waded thru page after page of music videos in this thread.  It took about 10 minutes to load each page only to see it was worthless.  Now, this morning, it's pages of bickering.  At least those pages load more quickly.

Time to get this contest back on track.  We need some kitty porn.  Here's one of my favs:

Have only been speed scanning the thread (due to tedious bickering) and initially thought hubby has been traded in whilst overseas.

Quantum mechanics and interstellar topology might not be the most practical subjects, Naam's profound ontological erudition are well enjoyed though.

Nancy would never get rid of her beloved hubby. She has lots of gigs though.

I think it appropriate to remind us all that none of the candidates were self nominated, and while each has their own merits, they are all popular in their own right. We should not lower ourselves to making comments about backgrounds and undermining a person's integrity. While I am not a Christian, it is supposed to be the season of goodwill, so let's have a healthy (and polite) discussion.

Ouch. That pretty much describes me. Just glad I have not become so nasty or jaded as the poster you are writing about. His inference as to national traits was despicable.

BTW I did not vote for you.

I too, have a similar background, although I got out of the teaching game a few years ago to pursue my writing.
