Visa exempt entries.

Featured Replies

I am starting to get the impression/believe that sooner or later the option of visa exempt and visa on arrival will soon be gone and all travellers to Thailand will need some kind of visa obtained outside of Thailand for entry.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Not going to happen.

Can you imagine the impact that would have on tourism? Millions enter on them every year for their holidays.

Absolutely NO!

Please don't mix up the clamp down on visa/border runners with the interest in legit overseas tourists.

My idea is that even more countries might be added to the exempt list (for flying in at least).

On those lines started the thought. As well, it's not beyond the bounds that some airlines might get caught out with more rejections they have to fly back, I know that some now ask you to sign saying you will be responsible for costs of that, but it's still a problem they don't want.

A return ticket and visa might just become a 100% requirement and visa exempt limited to neighbouring countries but still with limits.

Need of return ticket or proof of onward travel when having no visa is not new.

It has been the rule for very long.

Its also not new that you could slip through at many airlines why some posters always dispute.

Airline can also reject you when having return ticket over 30 days and no visa or proof of onward travel.

But I don't see the relation to your OP.

Just that if it starts to happen more, and I mean people not being allowed entry etc etc I can see pressure being put on 'here' to make things clearer re' visa exempt especially on long haul into Thailand. eg airlines checking  how many VE's are in your passport etc. And, yes, a new passport would solve that at point of departure.

Anyway it's only a point for discussion.

They had a rule everyone could figure out - the 180 day rule.  Now they have the 2-entry rule for land borders - also not hard to understand.  I'll give them credit for at least being clear about this rule - though you still have the fuzzy-rules in operation, as well.

As long as whatever limits the impose on Visa Exempts are clear and published - not the fuzzy "might reject" and "random-people questioned" situation they have now, there would be no problem, and the airlines could easily tell who would or would not be allowed to enter in all cases.

Absolutely.

First time my wife was going to apply for a visa for UK she was reluctant to accept me saying 'don't worry, the rules don't change every year' 3 times later she now understands. Keeps a copy of the application on file then changes the dates and a few other bits and never has a problem.
