Leo beer now tastes bad

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed that Leo beer changed its recipe a few weeks ago?  It's gone from the best-tasting refreshing beer to mediocre.

The recipe change was simultaneous with a minor change in the labels — the white information tabs have moved off the main label to the bottle top.

Fair warning: I intend to visit the local Big C's ASAP and buy up any cartons of the old Leo they happen to still have.

Not only that but they have cut the quantity in the bottles.

It always tasted bad and if it is now even worse.

Leo beer was always poor. Now it is terrible. I recommend avoiding it.

It's gone from an okayish (because-everything-else-is-shit) lager, to cack. Cans have also been sneakily reduced to 320ml. Any price change? Yeah, right!

There are no good Thai beers.

Somchai don't brew.

Hate to say it, but you're right. Beer Lao utterly trounces all three of them. In a way it is a good thing, though, because if there were a UK-style supermarket here with their massive range of beers/wines, I'd be broke!

is beer lao a thai beer and how much is it worth. I am in big trouble now. I come to thailand in 3 weeks and i always buy leo

Beerlao is Laos beer. Small bottle which is the only size I have seen is about 46-48 Baht at 7. You can buy a case/24 at Makro for a bit less/bottle.

The beer in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia is all so much better than Thai beer.

Could this be proof that colonisation was a good thing?

I wanna try one of these Laos now so I'll grab a few for me and FIL today and come back with a verdict Pronto

I always find after the 5th bottle it tastes so much better

I'm assuming this is a no ice in beer good taste?

It's so bad my wife switched to Tiger. And she's from Isaan where Leo is (was) a staple along with sticky rice and plaraa.

They were colonized by the French. How good are French beers compared to any other European country?

But, yes, Beer Lao is better.

There's also Beer Lao Dark (black).

I buy both and always mix it 50/50, wonderful, but of course personal taste.

hmmmm....I hate it when THAT happens

I'm not impressed by the change either, they've just filled it with more gas and less taste. I guess I'll be drinking more archa but it's difficult to find when eating out and it's by no means great either.

Regarding beer Lao, Ive tried it a few times and found it to be overrated but I guess that's just personal taste. Personally I'm missing my Stella, Kronenburg, Erdinger and Estrella beer, what I would consider a tasty tipple.

Most so called" Beers" mentioned here are not beers at all, they are lagers

I agree with what you say, but I thought lager was a type of beer so in essence is still beer.

Every drop saved is pure profit. I used to like Leo but stepped up to Singha. Everybody's product is under the profit microscope today to wring out more profit. It is blatantly noticeable in the everyday items one buys.

I hope you indeed mean Beerlao, which is a laotian beer, and has nothing to do with Leo. It's my house beer and I like everything except that I have only found 33 cl bottles so far. You can buy them at Makro as lager or dark beer.

Been ages since I reached the 5th bottle level. I have to get out and live a little I guess.

Unfortunately I went to a number of shops enroute to FILS and could not find any of this Laotian liquor being champed up so I have to cancel tonight's new tasting session. Thankfully my BIL loves Rat. Rat not beer so in addition to all the grub we got we got this Rat on the menu. So that's tonight's new taste!
